Growing National Debt Gets Silent Treatment From Candidates

America has a debt problem. And it’s not getting much attention from the contenders for the White House.

There is $27.8 trillion in debt held by the public. And this year the US is expected to run one of the largest deficits in history, which will only make the debt bigger.

Though everyone knows that spending on entitlement programs, including Social Security, is a big part of the problem, the 2024 presidential nominees are tiptoeing around the issue on the campaign trail. They’ve barely mentioned the deficit, much less offered any substantive solutions.

Spending on Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid could reach 10.3% of gross domestic product in 2024, according to projections from the Office of Management and Budget. That compares with an 8.2% average between 1984 and 2023.

House Majority Vote Saves Millions in Funding for NEA and NEH

United States Representatives voted overwhelmingly in favor of protecting funding for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) during a House floor session yesterday evening, July 23.

Republican Josh Brecheen had proposed two amendments to the Fiscal Year 2025 Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act that would have slashed funding for both agencies by nearly a quarter, cutting $48 million each from their proposed budgets. The Oklahoma representative has requested some $50 billion in cuts to “woke, weaponized, and wasteful” government spending in acknowledgment of the nation’s purported debt of approximately $34 trillion, targeting environmental and endangered animal conservation efforts, the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, and funding for Ukraine as well as the World Health Organization, among other recipients.

  • Video game performers will go on strike over artificial intelligence concerns
  • This is how generations have been, they usually don't accept new things, be it culture, technology or fashion, because it breaks their routine. AI is not going to disappear, because it is a technology as old as computing, the closest thing is that an AI winter will come (it has happened several times to a greater or lesser extent).

But this only affects the US, because in other countries it remains the same without strikes, and I think this will encourage more subcontracting in countries like India, China, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Indonesia, because they are cheaper. Unless the government starts giving subsidies or updates the Berne Convention.

An AI-powered fighter jet took the Air Force’s leader for a historic ride. Here's what that means for war.

An AI-controlled fighter jet took the Air Force leader for a historic ride. What that means for war

With the midday sun blazing, an experimental orange and white F-16 fighter jet launched with a familiar roar that is a hallmark of U.S. airpower. But the aerial combat that followed was unlike any other: This F-16 was controlled by artificial intelligence, not a human pilot. And riding in the front seat was Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall.

AI marks one of the biggest advances in military aviation since the introduction of stealth in the early 1990s, and the Air Force has aggressively leaned in. Even though the technology is not fully developed, the service is planning for an AI-enabled fleet of more than 1,000 unmanned warplanes, the first of them operating by 2028.

Video game performers will go on strike over artificial intelligence concerns
  • There are many types of AI Bros. They can be researchers who like to explore and develop the potential of AI, others who like to see AI-related research and like to explain how AI works to people who are not into the subject. Finally, there are those who say you can make money with a few steps or by doing nothing.

  • Video game performers will go on strike over artificial intelligence concerns
  • Well, this strike only affects the video game industry in the United States. The video game industries in other countries are still going and can use AI in development, we just have to see how this plays out in the future.

For example, in the future, if American actors decide to participate in Chinese or Indian video games and they use AI, they will have to accept the terms that the developer wants in their project or let someone else take their role.

At least that the international copyright treaties are updated (a titanic task to be fulfilled), but it does not ensure that all countries, organizations, companies or individuals follow and respect the agreements made, especially in developing countries.
