Chief justice's Christian reasoning in IVF opinion sparks alarm over church-state separation
  • Why do we depend on one small group to challenge these things. There should be unbridled community outrage. Crowd fund the legal challenge.

Most importantly though. Vote these rejects the fuck out of office. Shut them out for good.

  • Reddit admits more moderator protests could hurt its business
  • Yeah they need the community for that. They needed the community for everything. And you know what? Go on that site right now. It’s just endless dribble. Reformatted TikTok videos posted by bots. People endlessly repeating the same shit over and over again. Bots copying those endlessly repeated comments on the subsequent reposts. Where’s the stuff that made Reddit special? Has there been a chuck testa meme or noteworthy cool event like a good ama or the Christmas exchange that’s occurred recently? Is there content coming out of the site that’s making the news like it once did? Is the spark there? No

Now it’s just another corporate whore of a company where a bunch of sparkling water drinking pussies with erectile dysfunction sit around trying to figure out how they can best game the system to exploit their pageviews.

The ceo of this company comes out embracing Elon Musk, whines about how the community is cutting into his bottom line, and we are supposed to sit around continuing to provide this man with the content he needs to keep his website alive?

    Fuck that.

I think the people who create the gold that makes the internet what it is have sort of scattered to the ether and they’re waiting for the next thing to pop up. When it happens you’ll see that spark come about once more. Actual interesting content. Good topical memes. A fun atmosphere that doesn’t feel exploited by some pretentious pricks.

I want it to be lemmy and the fediverse. We are lying to ourselves if we think this caught all the people stepping off the sinking ship. But I think with some collective upgrades and a way better ui that can be marketed to the average person. This could and should be it.

Here’s hoping we see that happen.

  • Donald Trump has a big problem ahead
  • I can forgive some Trump voters in 16. A lot of them were just following the time honored script of republicans good, democrats bad, go team. I knew a few that eventually saw it for what it is and had enough character to admit they were wrong.

But that’s pretty damn limited. We knew who he was in 16. There were no surprises for most of us during his presidency. If you then voted for him in 2020 you had excuse. You were just a fucking idiot.

If you vote for him in 24. You’re not only an idiot you particularly hate America and you’re a joke.

  • Ultraviolet light can kill almost all the viruses in a room. Why isn’t it everywhere?
  • We use uv light stands in the hospital. We will shut down a room and run a uv sanitizer for a bit. It works in some instances but it's not exactly something you can just leave running all the time. Everyone would probably have a sick tan tho.. To go with their skin cancer..

  • It’s Maddening That the Supreme Court Could Decide 2024
  • These are the real problem group. They are hooked on partisan politics and would never support a Democrat, but this comes at the cost of the cancer growing among their ranks. I dont think these people are all classical racist fascists. These are Christian church going family men entering middle and elderly age. They are in fact generally good people and they are proud of that fact. These are the 'nobody wants to work anymore', 'I worked two jobs to make it through college ' crowd. But they have done well and raised good families. They are in my mind good people, hard workers, and good leaders. But they can't get past this us vs them mentality. They don't like trump and the maga shit but only because it makes them look bad. They want to be taken seriously and maintain their honor but it's real hard when your new maga friends keep wearing swastikas.

They are conflicted and angry and have signaled that no matter what, the majority of them will place their pride above all and vote for Trump again and again. They just can't accept that shit got away from them and their great monolith party of principles and honor is anything but. They have to find any way to both sides it and make the maga cancer seem like a common problem amongst their enemies ranks as well. To them it's not a maga problem if they can create a boogeyman. BLM and trans people invading schools.

It falls apart quickly under review, so that's why they don't review. If you get your news by reading headlines and you get your headlines from fox news, you'll always have a safe space.

These men and women are inadvertently killing America. They are blind to it because their victory would seemingly benefit them and cause no problems. They don't realize the true ramifications because they dismiss all of that as liberal overreaction.

This is the group that scares me, just because they yield so much influence.

  • 23andMe tells victims it's their fault that their data was breached | TechCrunch
  • I knew better than to give thee companies my DNA but of course I've had family give it to them. I suppose if I was wanted for an unsolved murder I'd be a bit concerned, but I'm still not happy that anyone's DNA is compromised that I'm associated with.

The question to me is what's the play with that data. I'd assume they would have a use for it if they went to the trouble of stealing it. I suspect in the future this will be lucrative data, but what's the play right now??

  • Kellyanne Conway thinks Republicans can win back women in 2024 by saying, “We took away your abortion rights, but we’re letting you keep contraception”
  • This isnt even factoring in the mass extinction event that was the covid pandemic. At first it hit everyone equally but once the vaccine came out and they decided to die on their stupid little hill the numbers skewed disproportionately towards the unvaccinated being the ones impacted in subsequent waves. We have confirmed this now in a few studies and I saw it first hand working in the emergency department.

That absolutely accelerated the trend you're describing and I think they are just now realizing that the maga train is careening towards its demise and their bold strategy to worship a conman is going to cost them everything.

This year will be the final deciding factor on that. If we can rid ourselves from trump we can prove that there is still hope for this nation. I'm not so naive to think that there won't be a new conman to take his place and we won't find ourselves in an endless fight. But if we can't stop trump and he somehow gets back in power then there's absolutely no hope for this nation.

  • Court documents naming Epstein associates are to be made public this week? Who do you think will come out the worst?
  • Yeah I think it's hard to tell where people's vices start and stop. Probably some of those people were just doing drugs, just having sex with prostitutes. To me neither of those things is inherently bad or of concern at face value. But there's no question there's also people who were specifically associating with those two for the kid rape.

We will likely never know the truth but Im personally ok with all the names being dropped because even if you weren't raping kids, your judgment was so compromised that you were associating with one of the worst sex traffickers on the planet. We should not be associating with you or doing business with you. But I think everyone's going to assume any name on the list was diddling kids, and I just don't think that's true.

  • Court documents naming Epstein associates are to be made public this week? Who do you think will come out the worst?
  • Well it's kind of like that photo of Elon and Ghislaine. Does it raise questions? Oh yes. Does it automatically mean Elon has been raping kids? No. Those two rapists associated with lots of famous people. I think they got their in with a lot of people becauze of all the secret rapists they associated with. I don't think every person who has associated with them was a rapist.

  • Navalny sends ‘arctic hugs and polar greetings’ from Siberian prison in New Year’s Eve message
  • I suppose it's good that he wasn't just outright assassinated. Not that this won't occur if putin sees the need for it.

Here's hoping 24 will see putin finally answer for his many crimes and this man set free along with so many others.

  • Up to 10 hospital patients in Oregon died from tap water injections instead of fentanyl: report
  • I work as a hospital supervisor. I honestly don't know of any facility where you can't get saline iv flushes. Most nurses have pockets full of them each shift. If you didn't have that for some reason you could get sterile saline and draw it up yourself, also would be easily obtainable.

My only thought here is that the person didn't want to leave the room when administering drugs and so they used tap water as an easily sourced replacement for the drugs they was stealing since there is a sink is every room (at least in most hospital rooms).

The real answer here is that drug addiction overrides rational thought and they either didn't know or didn't care that tap water is not safe at all for iv administration.

We see lots of cases of diversion unfortunately because these drugs are just so damn addictive and there are only so many safe guards you can put in place to protect against it. At the end of the day no matter how many checks there are you will eventually have a clinical staff member drawing up the drugs and administering it. As long as this remains the case you will have people that abuse that weak link in the chain.

  • Brexit has completely failed for UK, say clear majority of Britons – poll
  • You'll never alleviate that. Most people are dumb as fuck. That's not inherently a bad thing, but it can be exploited. In the new age of constant misinformation if you want to get people to vote against their own interests you need only start a gas lighting campaign and without too much effort you'll find success.

  • Brexit has completely failed for UK, say clear majority of Britons – poll
  • Mmmmmm no. This is the justification many trump voters used. It implies voters are completely off the hook for the consequences of their actions and it's only the 'scheming criminals' who fooled them that can be held accountable.

Just as ignorance of the law does not get you out of your speeding ticket, allowing yourself to be fooled as a voter doesn't absolve you of the poor choice you made with your vote. It's a collective fuck up. Own it.

  • Russia has deployed battalion of Ukrainian prisoners of war to frontline - ISW
  • I think you underestimate Russian cruelty. A country that can normalize sending its citizens into an absolute meat grinder has no problems being beyond barbaric with its POWs. I have no doubt Ukranian prisoners are suffering a fate even worse than we can imagine. In circumstances like that suddenly it might just be worth it to accept your fate being killed by your countrymen. Hell maybe you can even get back to them.

The Germans did the same thing in ww2 and in many instances the soldiers either killed their captors or surrendered the first chance they could.

  • Putin's major aerial attack on Ukraine cost Russia $1.2 billion: Report
  • Nah see you've got it wrong. You are correct that things happen or don't happen based entirely on the wealth that is generated for select people. But the people who would benefit from the domination and removal of Russia easily outbid the people who would benefit from their success. The major companies that are already making insane money sending weapons to Ukraine would be happy to see a ground war kick off into Russia. Yeah there's some right wing grifters that are pro Russia but they're small potatoes. The money Russia is throwing around is a fraction of a percent of the money that nato aligned arms manufacturers and whatnot are throwing around.

  • Putin's major aerial attack on Ukraine cost Russia $1.2 billion: Report
  • If Russia did not have nuclear capabilities we would have invaded Russia about a week after they invaded Ukraine and by now we would be well into the war crimes trial of putin.

The west can't get pulled into direct conflict with putin because we would win. Handedly. And putin would inevitably deploy his nukes as his situation became more desperate. We would have to respond in kind and that's the ballgame.

  • Nikki Haley backpedals Civil War comments in which she made no mention of slavery
  • Lol no. That definition just leaves corporations everything they need to continue to exploit the fuck out of any and every loophole that exists. When they're the ones paying billions to decide what is 'illegal' the definition ceases to have any value.

If It not illegal, but it should be, fuck no you shouldn't be doing it. Get your 'well tEcHnICaLlY' bullshit outta here.

  • Biden announces $250 million in military aid to Ukraine, final package of 2023
  • Every cent we spend in Ukraine is arguably the best return on investment the US has ever had. With no US casualties we have effectively purchased the decimation of our enemies military and crippled their ability to wage any meaningful military action for decades.

Had Putin been successful in Ukraine he would already be setting about plans for the next bullshit excuse to invade the next nation. We played games with Hitler and conceded nation after nation only to find out that he had no intention of ever stopping. These men are all the same.

We can have a conversation about the billions of dollars wasted by the US government every year, this is not one of those instances.
