  • So I will stick on Lemmy for the time being. After all I don't care for down votes, I think votes in general should not be private, because this is like a public plaza what you say is public, and attaching a reputation because of down votes is dangerously bullying and a slippery slope, so piefed doesn't actually feel like my pie at the moment.

Still maybe I will try a fresh installation just to check it out.

  • Interested, how do I move an instance from Lemmy to piefed?

  • I wasn't technically married, but after 10 years it was like it.

Anyway, technically i ended it by cheating on her, but in retrospective she had't been fulfulling her part of the relationship on oh so many levels, and i was looking (cowardly) for a way out. So the cheat become my actual wife and we have been happy ever after.

It's been the best change in my life ever. but my knees don't always agree.

As a life lesson, you need to make experience. You need to know what you want from life, and you need to learn how to care for somebody. Before these three checks are green, your relaitonships will not be lifelong or positive. Break from bad relaitonships and learn from them, but most of all, learn from yourself. Find out who you are, then start grow a couple. Find a better person than you are as your SO, learn together and grow together.

and, most of all, do not follow advice from strangers on the net.

  • Not really reliable, much less than wire guard. If your connection is unstable ssh not the best option. Autossh make it better, but still after a forced disconnection ssh will take a while to drop and reconnect. Wire guard is much better. I moved from ssh+autossh to wireguard and wished I did that sooner.

  • Beg your pardon... After my 40 all I want is good weather and time to go running or cycling or maybe swimming in a lake.

No way would like to spend time drinking alcohol or watching shitty TV.

    YMMV.

Fully agree on the I don't want to go out, meaning social life, too much. Except going out cycling with my sport buddies, ofc

  • Rest+backrest and the 3.2.1 rule.

One backup local on an external drive on my server Second backup on another disk connected to a WiFi ap in the house.

Third off site backup copy on my VPS.

    All done by rest.

  • I use radicale. Safe and solid. Zero php.

You need to install a separate app if you want a web based calendar ui, or you can just use dav5x on android or any other caldav client.

  • Respect her and her needs. If she doesn't want, there are good reasons for that.

She is underage, so that also counts maybe?

Maybe she is protecting you, or herself... Can you tell?

  • I never looked at or considered uovotes and downvotes, so, who cares if they are enabled or disabled.

You don't need confirmation from strangers online to feel confident...

  • Feels like P.K.Dick, but actulized with current day terminology.

    Good work

  • I did, a few times. Small amounts, but i think it's important to contribute.

  • Virus

  • "Download"... More like exchange infected floppy disks with friends.

Yeah, I never had a virus or heard of somebody get a virus for real since floppy disks times.

  • Yes, because there is really no reason to avoid either I can understand having a preference or a dislike for props, but not really to avoid them.

Unless, of course, you clarify why.

  • The Mobile Athlon CPU, with unlocked multipliers I was able to overclock like crazy. It was something like 20 years ago.

Seriously, replaced a 2x6Tb raid1 of mechanical hdd's with 4x4tb raid 5 SSDs. Amazing update in terms of noise reduction and power consumption. As for speed, I don't care, the content is consumed over the network anyway.

  • Once upon a time, when airplanes where not a thing and real time communication implied a distance that you can scream to... When only snail mail or telegraph where available and people traveled by boat and train...

You would never experience jet lag nor have the problem of knowing if people far away was ssleeping or not.

In this scenario, when time was standardized and organized, it only made sense that everybody would wake up and go to bed at the same time no matter where their lived (more or less, of course ,you get the meaning). Thats when time zones where defined, so that people traveling by boat or train would keep waking up day after day at the same time of the day.

Without time zones, life would be quite difficult to organize and understand. Ask to the Chinese, that live in the Beijing timezone in a country spanning three time zones. They keep using mixed local and Beijing times... And catching trains and airplanes is a mess for this reason...

No, timezones are really needed. Not having them would be weird and messy.

  • Italy here, today waiting for the "Giro d'Italia" to pass and take some photos. I like torcetti and croissants (not the French ones please)

  • Really appreciated the reference!

Good to know my wiki is of any use to somebody.
