astpartame is one of the most intensely studied additives and the worst they can come up with is "it might slightly raise the risk of cancer", which also applies to being on an airplane.

the dipper is only part of the actual constellation, the dipper itself is instead an "asterism", which basically means constellation but less arbitrary and nonsensical.

an asterism is any pattern in the stars, while constellations are standardized and historical and generally only useful for categorizing sections of the sky for astronomers.

it's definitely still used in aviation, because that kind of thing can never change lest people fucking die because a pilot got confused.

this made me realize how great this map would be for an alternate history or fantasy setting

the mountain range between north america and africa creates the super interesting situation where the sides are almost entirely separated save for the coast and a teensy tiny bit near cape town that's sort of crossable, so the coast would see an insane amount of traffic and i could see there being a capital nestled in the mountains next to the passage to cape town.
