  • Market forces are not capitalism, they're a component that is utilized under certain conditions in capitalism, and not only in capitalism. Most markets trend towards oligopoloes and monopolies. It's now easy to see how. Competition literally leads to consolidation. The market share of failed competitors, often their equipment and other assets, and even often their former employees become part of the winning competitors' operations. Rinse and repeat till you end up with very few, very big players.

  • There's now numbers showing that the bird flu, real as it is, did not result in a significant dip in egg production in the US. Egg producers increased prices on the news about the bird flu and kept increasing them while it was still going. Cal-Maine, the largest egg producer in the US made record profits during this period and still do. Their profit margin went from around 7% pre-pandemic to 25%.

So while disease protocols differ, that's not what drove these price hikes. Instead it's the same scheme various oligopolies have been pulling since the disruption of the pandemic. Some reasonably sounding cause for price increses circulates in the media, manufactures consent for price hikes with the public, price hikes occur, they keep going for as long as media provides cover, afterwards prices may stabilize at the higher level, people's attention moves elsewhere.

  • You know what this means. They're gonna be tightening things up as soon as they smell slowing down profit growth. If you live in a copyright haven, make sure your anon VPN, blocklists and all that are setup correctly.

  • I was missing this one, thank you!

    How it started...

  • The robot knows what's up.

  • Yeah, exactly. An Erin O'Toole would have killed it this election.

  • Well he's now campaigning for an election in Alberta so presumably there's audience for this. It didn't work well Canada-wide. Come next federal election, the media cycle would ensure people don't recall this episode. If he passes leadership review.

  • If it only was merely aboit staying in business.. instead it's all about growing profits. They made $613M on $4.3B last year.

  • “There’s a lot of great things about California, but raising a family is not easy here. Doing business is not easy here.”

Billionaire finds it difficult to raise a family in California.

  • Yup.

Keep in mind that this is positive for foreign business interests like the ones that would get to mine those minerals, or foreign Big Ag that's buying up farmland. All of those would have easier time to acquire more of those resources for cheaper and extract higher profits, offloading more negative externalities on the majority of Ukranians.

Also accession to the EU would require reforms in the opposite direction from this. The vested interests making these changes are making Ukraine's EU prospects more difficult.

  • Just considering the amount of high accurcy machining labour done on that thing. It's indistinguishable from an artwork.

  • I meant Walmart in the online marketplace context.

  • This is a good habit to develop for anyone who doesn't only work, eat, shit and sleep.

  • Well aware of the machine. Here's official Russian sourcing. Not everyone who's not a fan of the current Russian admin is a State Dept zombie. Here - the USSR was dissolved illegally and I'd take it anyday instead of the oligarchy that formed in the 90s.
