They don't make the parts I'm missing anymore.

  • What Sony could do is patch restrictive DRM software into all their games that checks the hardware info and fails to boot if you're on "an xbox".

They'd definitely do that, they've already used what amounted to a Rootkit for DRM in the mid-2000s, so your idea wouldn't even be the worst they've done lolol

  • Not necessarily, lemmy.ml can only be the face of Lemmy if we (the wider Fediverse) allow it to be. Because the truth is, most people do not care about who the devs of an open source project are.

Many do currently because a good portion of us lemmings are technical people to begin with, but the less technical folks coming from Reddit aren't going to go to the GitHub or go-to Dessalines wonderful essays page.

But what those people do care about, is what is visible to them through their day to day use, and wide defederation will absolutely take care of that problem

  • Yea, but unfortunately it's unlikely to happen because it's written in Rust, which is a difficult language so there aren't many devs to tackle it compared to other languages.

What we can do though is to call for wider defederation, there's precedent because so many instances defed from the rest of the Tankie Triad, we should be petitioning those admins to simply treat .ml the same regardless of how big of a "support hub" it is for the Lemmy server software or how many "big" comms (by subscriber count, by MAUs, only one .ml comm breaks the top 15) they have
