There were A LOT of songs about nuclear war in 80s music. German youth in the 80s was very aware that in nuclear war Germany (being a huge part of the east west border) would just be ground zero to be vaporized in WW3.
Thinking about Germany people associate the Autobahn, what some don't know - there were pre-built detonation chambers so key sections and bridges could be mined with atomic demolition munitions in order to stop the east bloc tank armies from advancing.
ChatGpt translation of the song lyrics:
When in the Canale Grande submarines drop anchor
\
And on St. Peter’s Square in Rome missile launch pads stand
\
When a carpet of bombs floats over the bazaar of Ankara
\
And from the hills of Olympus a Pershing II rises
Then everything is long too late
\
Then, when nothing works anymore
\
Visit Europe
\
As long as it still stands
In front of the old Cologne Cathedral a mushroom cloud rises into the air
\
And the sky is filled with the scent of neutron waffles
\
When in Paris the Eiffel Tower bows westward in a final salute
\
And near Big Ben a gentle Alpine glow appears
Then everything is long too late
\
Then, when nothing works anymore
\
Visit Europe
\
As long as it still stands
When haute cuisine turns into a witch’s cauldron
\
Where the cook from overseas flambés his old world
\
There’s laughter and applause, even the waiter gets a kick
\
What’s left to us but culture — we wish you bon appétit
Then everything is long too late
\
Then, when nothing works anymore
\
Visit Europe
\
As long as it still stands
\
Yes, then everything is long too late
\
Then, when nothing works anymore
\
Visit Europe
\
As long as it still stands
\
As long as it still stands, as long as it still stands
\
As long as it still stands, as long as it still stands
"Race" was invented by racists. There was a lot of fake science here in Germany in the 30s to "prove" that not only "human races" exist, but even so that they have different worth.
So this is what I always still hear when someone is using the word - and commonly they are racists.
I do understand where you're coming from, and I totally agree that there are a fucking lot of supremacist people and yes - if I had been a teenager in the 30s, people would have seen I'm blonde, blue-eyed and tall. So I would have that privilege and still it is a privilege in the modern world.
Prejudices about skin color exist, I absolutely agree. Racists exist, I agree. Just "race" - every time I hear that, it's like something out of the Nazi textbooks my grandfather had to use at school.
I can stand carbonated water and hate plain water. When I was a kid, my family wouldn't drink water but other beverages.
My kids (17 and 20 now) grew up with drinking water at home. Water was the thing to drink if you are thirsty, everything else was allowed but "something special" like a sweet. Going to a restaurant also was special, they could choose what they like.
While I still struggle with water - I manage, but I still drink sugar free soda as well, my adult kids can't understand how I like that sweet stuff all the time.
So I firmly believe your preference is what you grew up with. You can change it, but it takes effort.
Look on github for Rappetor's SV08 mainline repository. You'll need a new mmc or sd card (both are ok) and a "five bucks" STLink programmer, but then it is quite easy to put mainline klipper on your sv08. The mainboard is a cb1 clone with the "main" ST microcontroller for driving the steppers on the same board (for cost reduction, probably)
That's the prerequisite for using a probe. like a btt eddy on a SV08, for example.
Other than the SV08 has a few issues like super noisy board fan which can be very easily be taken care of. (Funnily software control of the fan is possible, but just not done in the default firmware)
My mods are mainline klipper, btt eddy, new (printed) extruder shroud with better airflow, a microswiss hotend and a second camera (USB webcam for second viewing angle and better resolution).
Out of the box the SV08 has a bit of problems keeping a consistent Z offset due to missing temperature calibration for the probe. More reliable solutions (ported from voron) like klicky are available. I chose eddy - but haven't perfectly tuned it in, either. I'll try the eddy-ng firmware (github) next week.
Here in Germany Pickel-Rick is quite common.
Wait, has something changed in the speed an atomic war would take place in the last 40 years? When I was a teenager in the 80s I could be vaporized from one moment to the next.
We had fucking autobahns and bridges mined with tactical nukes so they could be blown up in order to stop a conventional army.
Maybe fatalism is what you get being a teenager in the 80s living right next to the Iron Curtain.
Yes, I agree, so as Vlad learned even if you leave them on the ground and put tires on them so they don't fly off, something might come along and successfully migrate around 40 of them to the cloud.
For the F35 unfortunately a lot of its capabilities seems to be cloud based. (At least for maintenence, I don't know of on the air).
That's why I'm angry my stupid government still has wants to buy the stupid things instead of sitting this generation out and going to an own 6gen aircraft.
Fun fact, some LED candles just use such a cheap chip connected to a LED instead of a speaker, so they'll flicker... they'll flicker the song all along.
Right, they are "end of speed limit". So, if there's speed limit signs you'll find another speed limit or this "end of limits" sign afterwards. This doesn't mean "go qs fast as you want", it just means there's no additional limit on top of what the road type says.
So if it's a road where ongoing and incoming traffic is just divided by road markings, the limit is 100 (or below if there are speed limit signs), if the road has two halves with some barrier in the middle ("baulich getrennte Fahrbahnen") and at least two lanes per direction the recommended speed is 130 with no hard limits. (But the insurance might get back to you if you were driving tooo fast)
Btw interestingly while we may drive really fast we have a law against racing your car (including racing to the next stop light), if you do that you might lose your driving license and not get it back for a looong time. (And that's really expensive)
Last, if you do traffic violations which are more than a misdemeanor (for example tailgating) and they catch you, your license will be suspended for at least a month, but typically more.
Interestingly minor violations like being up to 20kph too fast outside of city limits is. among the cheapest all over Europe. But do something bad and you'll ride a bike for a few months.
Edit: thank you autocorrect for correcting so if to son of.... now everyone knows what a filthy mouth I am.
Signs are quite visible. Around here (Munich) most of the Autobahn speed limits are electronic signs anyways, which can be turned off or on set to a limit between 60 and 120 due to traffic or weather conditions. *
"Normal" speed limits signs are being repeated every 30 seconds or so, google. maps also shows the limit while navigating and a lot of newer cars detect the signs as well and show the current limit on the speedometer.
Current cars must play a warning sound (by law) each time you exceed the limit. (You may turn the warning off for the current trip)
- btw there's one electronic sign per lane on a "bridge - like" construction and here in Bavaria they include mounting points for speed trap cameras.
If I'm going really fast I may give people who are just sitting on the left lane a single flash when I'm still quite far away so they are aware I'm closing in.
Going fast is only possible on a quite empty road anyways.
With a trailer you're limited to 80kph (or 100kph im some cases)
And police is setting also setting up "distance traps" on the Autobahn, you can get a ticket (or even lose your license) for tailgating.
I just googled for "flat pasta strainer", as the one I have was a present from my dad and I don't know a brand or name.
I grabbed this pic from Amazon to show the strainer. It's not how I cook pasta. Tbh probably every Chinese product is being shown with a sloppy photoshop pic, nowadays.
Scheiße, als alter Sack hab ich jetzt nen Ohrwurm. Ich hatte damals die Platte.
I have one of these:
I love it, much better than a normal strainer.
(And it doesn't take a lot of space in the drawer or dishwasher)
GROAAAAAAN.
