  • I come from a deep blue state, but haven’t lived in the US in years and every time I get an absentee ballot, it’s too late to send it in. I still apply, but we’ll see if it comes in time

  • There is literally no way to reason these people out of the position they didn't reason themselves into.

Regarding this, I recently saw the counterpoint of Santa. Most people never reason themselves into believing in Santa, but they do reason themselves out of it. Obviously there’s cognitive development that happens in between in the Santa case, but a lot of people form their core political beliefs pretty young, so that may be true of politics as well.

  • Perhaps I should have said it differently. After decades of being a vegetarian, I went plant-based for the environment, then fairly quickly went vegan, because I started caring about animals a lot more.

I don’t know if that’s just as obvious, but I was definitely surprised.

  • I did start caring more about animals after I went vegan. I was never frying ants for fun, but I also never got sad about petting zoos, for example.

So hey, maybe it’s more common that people adopt a moral system that makes meat seem less like food no matter how they start out.

  • They’re actually way more convenient than that! You have a strap on the inside of the window that you can use to raise or lower the shutters as much as you like. When it’s fully closed, the light is blocked out nearly completely though.

  • I live in a garden level apartment (I think, it’s mostly underground with one exterior wall above ground for windows, set into a hill) and it’s extremely energy efficient. We do have to use dehydrators, but that can be done in very energy-efficient ways.

The apartments above us are significantly less energy efficient, so the big drawback I see is around housing density, which is probably a bigger issue than heating/cooling energy, but I don’t actually know.

  • Life, huh

    Jump
  • Sometimes it’s just luck. I smoke weed and refuse to sleep normally and I still get carded for energy drinks (16+) at 33

No kids though… I don’t know how anyone can look young with kids.

  • He used to be different politically, because that was cool. Now he has enough money that people will tell him he’s cool no matter what his politics are, so he now supports the causes that benefit him. I don’t think he’s ever going back.
