  • ...And affordable housing, childcare, education, public transportation, affordable, accessible healthcare...any and all of these are necessary to create an environment someone would want to raise a child in. They take money away from the ultra wealthy and military contractors though so are anethema to the conservative monster.

  • I just had my first thread that I came across today, after nearly 2 years here, that was collaboratively funny, creative, diverse and made me remember what lots of talent in a thread can do. Not just anti-establishment/political circle jerking, or a few tech categories that get enough visibility to get participation.

It was a /mildlyinteresting thread about giraffes being more likely to be struck by lightning. It immediately made me feel like I was finallly home again after 2 years and looking forward to more and more growth in Lemmy and the fediverse.

  • To protect his followers from the capitalists, surely...

It clearly should not be allowed for private ownership of the means of truth creation; education, news media, etc. but the alternative is either state control, or praying that a true grassroots, democratic and consistent news media takes firm and permanent it will not only start but continue. Small wonder the latter hasny had many chances to be experimented with since the chaos out of what is almost always a revolution means when power is taken or "order restored" it again is either capitalists with means to produce news media or the state.

In 2025, costs of production are effectively zero, so it could be done, but now the monster of misinformation--which also has costs of production of zero--is a well oiled and established.

Where do you go from here?

  • Exactly like the rest of the country, the Dems exist on fealty to corporate and megadonors. They are not structured, and therefore, not interested, to run a candidate in the progressive interests of their constituents. Any actual progressives have beaten enormous odds. Think how progressive NY is and they have like 1 firebrand in AOC. Vermont has Bernie and is an independent. Oregon has Wyden. That's pretty much it in the Senate.

  • It's inevitable. It's why the "first they came for" is a mantra that has to be understood and acted on. It's why progressives have been decrying the democratic party for 30 years. You cannot have liberty and corporate, unaccountable wealthy in the same system, they are incompatible.
