Growing the community despite the recent linusgate
  • Not necessarily looking past the behaviour - LTT-related news and updates should still be posted, and issues/scandals should still be discussed and condemned, but not to the point where we turn the community into one whose purpose is to witch hunt.

In my personal view, scandals should be reported on, express disapproval, and move on. The community should be around what we all love: discussion about technology. And to ensure that the community remains focused as to not compete with the wider technology community, it can be about technology featured on LMG channels. Many do have questions and concerns about the featured technology.

If people want to witch hunt, they can go to the lienus tech tips channel.

Again this is just a suggestion, so not at all mandating anything. Personally I'm not particularly interested in witch hunting people. I am passionate about tech, not drama.

  • So what kind of content is allowed in this community?
  • I find comparison discussions important to choosing a product as it allows us to assess and evaluate what makes a good product, and purchase the best available product for our own needs.

If we find that a product fits our needs, who cares what brand it is? I'm not a fan of Google, but the pixel series seems to be the best device available for me.

If an LTT bag suits someone's needs for school, then get it.

  • So what kind of content is allowed in this community?

So due to recent developments, are we still allowed to post and discuss tech-related topics? Or is the goal of this community now one of shitposting on LMG, given the recent name and banner changes?

The recent post on stubby screwdrivers was locked before even giving other people the opportunity to share their own thoughts on alternative brands that are specific to their country. As much as Linus and LMG fucked up, really sad to see this community degrading down a path of hatred (even if justified, based on community name change , banner, etc), instead of chatting about what we all love: technology, independent of the situation at LMG.

Really hate seeing a community with so much promise (especially as a Reddit alternative) getting destroyed.

Growing the community despite the recent linusgate

Despite the current mess that is LMG, what I have come to enjoy is the community that was brought together around technology and memes. It was nice to have a community where we talk around a common interest (tech) but also meme around. And particularly one that's not on Reddit or ltt forums.

I'm far from an LMG defender, especially after the continuous streaks of misses. Unfortunately the largest of the LTT communities - !linustechtips@lemmy.ml - (specifically its mod) had recently seemed to have chosen to go down an atrocious path of vendetta against Linus and LMG. Beyond the community now being called "Lienus Tech Tips", even a neutral thread around stubby screwdrivers were locked, preventing further discussions on the best possible stubby screwdriver.

    E.g. this thread https://lemmy.ml/comment/2889903

That entire community has transformed into one dedicated to LMG hate fest. This is getting tiring and off-putting. Hoping that we can get back to growing a community built around shared interests and tech instead of one that is cancerous, and vendetta-hungry.
