Back in the before times, bills would come to a vote and bills that had virtually total support would go thru with unanimous consent. Now, bills are blocked from being voted on so that Senators aren't on the record being shitbags. As you quoted Vance saying, "“it’s idiotic for us to take the bait” in regards to Democrats using the bill to force Republicans to publicly declare whether or not they support IVF."

Think about that statement from a Senator, then marvel at how fundamentally different he sees the job of a Senator from say, you or me or regular humans.

Duckworth is putting a face to whoever opposes a wildly popular issue, IVF treatment. It causes people to think about the issue, because legislators are in fact advocators (you know, in complete contrast to Vance trying to hide what he advocates for). There's nothing performative about it.

in my opinion, it is the standard democrat cynicism. it is simply something that in the future can be used as a bullet point for her future candidacy. without context, one could write ‘honestly’ she “fought” for IVF.

For Duckworth and for many people, IVF is a opportunity that is basically magic. It changes their lives and it gives them the opportunity to have children. There are few things more powerful than that, and it's tone deaf to an extreme degree to think that something is performative just because it isn't targeted at you.

It's ok if everything isn't important to you, champ. It can be important to others and we can support that. There will be Republican supporters of IVF that wanna know too.

I coach a middle school over in West Seattle and I love it. I dont have the pressure of club soccer and honestly they’re just happy to have me. It’s mostly U12 and my focus is intro to tactics. We start with the 433, then I have them morph to a 451 based on the flow of the game. Then we transition to a 343 and we talk about how responsibilities change based on formation and flow. By the end of the season my team makes their own changes on the fly in game.

It’s fuckin great. The kids are getting better every year, and I don’t mean a little. My JV squad this past season would have kicked the shit out of my varsity team from three years ago. American soccer is screaming forward and it’s great to be a part of it.

I don’t understand her point at all. The game is changing so radically and so fast that even high level coaches have trouble understanding the ramifications of the current game. Unless the coach announces the tactics, the viewer is being asked to guess at instructions on the fly.

Asking casuals to understand it isn’t fair. I’m a coach and I have trouble. It’s a game and her comments are really asshole-ish.

These people sound like exact copies of the people saying voting in 2000 didn't matter, and that turned out to be the most politically consequential of my lifetime. Gore was imperfect as they all are, but holy fuck did Dubya fuck up literally everything he touched.

Among many, many, many things, Dubya started forever wars killing untold hundreds of thousands of people. He accelerated oil and gas production, absolutely setting the Climate Change world on a pace for disaster. He seated Alito, unquestionably the biggest monster currently on the Supreme Court. And he passed a monster tax cut for the rich that set us on this path of unrestrained deficit spending.

And that's just the headlines. Remember when he tried to put his personal lawyer on the Supreme Court? lol

Gen X already tried this 25 years ago and it fucked the world up so badly that we need to be saved by the future generations. Imagine not learning that lesson and doing it again.
