MJ PDF v2.2.0, my open-source PDF reader, is almost ready for official release, but I need your help with testing. This version focuses on improvements and stability. Here's a short summary of change log:
Short Change Log ================
- Added support for Arabic, Chinese, Turkish, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Hindi, and Russian.
- Introduced Always in Horizontal Mode option.
- Added return button to search results, improved search result highlighting.
- Added full support for password-protected and non-local PDF.
- Added 'Reload PDF file' button setting.
- Added an experimental setting to show a 'reload PDF file' button
- Fixed issues with the back button not functioning in some cases.
- Improved UI consistency with icon and text colors, and a more streamlined Full Screen Buttons layout.
- Addressed many crash scenarios.
- Updated to Android SDK, Gradle and many deps.
Note: Major updates to core libraries mark significant progress, resolving long-standing issues.
Exciting Update ===============
While working on this version, I found a way to possibly add some of the top-requested features like Text Highlighting and Live Text Selection. It looks like I can get these done without too much hassle. However, I'm swamped right now, so I'm not sure when I'll start on these. I’ll keep you posted!

I'm not a bird girl, never really had an interest, but a random app download of "recognizing birds by their sounds" was one of the most fun 'trivial' app downloads I think I've ever made.
I have the best time now opening a window and checking what birds are making sounds around me. If I'm on a hike or a walk, and take the time to stop and listen, now I might just open the app and see what is around me. Again, if the devs are around on here, just a big thank you for something I never ever ever would have looked into. I won't ever be a passionate bird follower (is that the term?), but this app really made me happy.
Thanks! <3

textbee.dev is an opensource and free sms-gateway for android devices
Here's a list of the main features:
- SMS Sending: Whether it's notifications, two-factor authentication (2FA), one-time passwords (OTPs), alerts, CRM integration, e-commerce delivery notifications, or any other use case your app requires, textbee.dev enables you to send SMS directly from its dashboard or via its API.
- Batch SMS: Leverage the API to send SMS messages in bulk, making it an efficient solution for mass communication.
- SMS Receiving: Not only can you send SMS but you can also enable the receive SMS feature to retrieve messages you get via API or access them in your dashboard (Webhooks for real-time notifications are on the roadmap 😉 )
- Free and Open-source: Being a free and open-source platform, you won't have to pay a single penny to use its services. Furthermore, you have the option to self-host your own instance, providing you with complete control and flexibility.
textbee is currently under active development and would appreciate your feedback and any feature requests you may have. Also feel free to contribute on github
Thank you for your interest, support and feedback.

The original was posted on /r/fossdroid by /u/Pistacho_Premium on 2024-04-01 12:20:13. *** Hi everyone! I'm doing my first ever post on Reddit to introduce my first open-source app, Material Notes. It is a very simple note-taking app, with the ability to create inline checklists, using Material Design and without internet permission.
It's not a revolutionary app at all, I did not try to reinvent anything. I just wanted an app to write simple text-based notes without formatting, that included inline checklists, and with a clean Material Design implementation (I couldn't find any note taking app that offers it).
Here are its main features:
- Write text notes with inline checklists
- Search, sort and pin your notes
- Restore your notes from the bin
- Share, backup and restore your notes
- Choose a light or dark theme, including toggleable black background and Material You support
- Never worry about you data, the app doesn't have any internet permission
You can find the source code on GitHub.
You can download it from the GitHub releases or from the Play Store.
Feel free to give me your honest opinion about my app here or in GitHub discussions or issues. I am a junior developer so I am still learning a lot, but I have wanted to contribute to the FOSS space for a long time ☺️

This beautiful community was created by u/prcrst twelve years ago. After a plateaued period, we've witnessed more growth particularly in the last seven months.
We're all about free/libre, open-source software (FLOSS) — also known as freedomware — for the Android operating system and AOSP-derived firmware.
Note that free software (freedomware) and freeware don't refer to the same concept. Freedomware is usually free of charge, but it can legitimately and legally come with a price tag. Free software is a matter of freedom, not price.
> > Free software is software that comes with permission for anyone to use, copy, and/or distribute, either verbatim or with modifications, either gratis or for a fee. In particular, this means that source code must be available. > > >
(Categories of Free and Nonfree Software)
We love the four essential freedoms. We hate proprietary (nonfree) software, particularly proprietary spyware. These software are created by evil developers and corporations which exploit naïve, oblivious, and fatuous people.
We also love F-Droid!
Since r/fdroid has been set to "private" indefinitely, this subreddit is now the de facto home for all things F-Droid. To cement that fact, there is now an
F-Droid
flair! Use the flair for all your submissions pertaining to F-Droid: repos, clients, APIs, administration, documentation, or even the Monitor. Here are a few things about this subreddit:
- Last week, there were 141,000 page views across the subreddit.
- Last week, there were 366 new subscriptions.
- At any given time, there is an average of sixty users active online.
- The majority of this subreddit's subscribers are from the United States 🇺🇸, Germany 🇩🇪, and India 🇮🇳.
- The AutoModerator works really, really, really hard to ensure this subreddit is safe and its content remains relevant.
I hope you all have a great time here as we enter a period of unprecedented growth. Honestly, I love you all! ❤️

They have a github page here with all of their releases packaged as TTS engines, which are usable system-wide without an internet connection and have pretty good quality.
If you want to look through that whole list, it's sorted by release version, then architecture, then by language (languages are sometimes ordered incorrectly). Make sure you open any installed engine before trying to change your engine in Android accessibility settings or the settings will crash. Also the apks all have the same package name, so you can only have one engine installed at a time.
I recommend the piper-en\_US-glados and piper-en\_US-lessac-medium models. Their pronunciation, handling of punctuation, and audio quality are good (the Glados model is robotic by design) and have short generation times.

New
causes one to miss the stickied posts altogether, at least on old.reddit.com.Nevertheless, endeavour to read the stickied submissions despite your preferred sort type for this subreddit. They are essentially announcements 📢, and exist for a good reason.
It's been a month and three weeks, yet some people here aren't aware of what happened to the Simple Mobile Tools application suite. For those who do know, many are still enquiring about alternatives.
We are felicific about Naveen Singh's Fossify project. The code in the Fossify suite are direct forks of those in the SMT suite (circa December 5th, 2023). Some of them have already been compiled into packages, and are available on the IzzyOnDroid repository of F-Droid and the default F-Droid repository. At the time of writing, two have been processed into binaries in the current build cycle of default F-Droid. Others are a WIP.
I recommended several freedomware alternatives to the (now ichneutic) Simple Mobile Tools apps in the primal stickied post. There are so many excellent gems there which you probably don't know about. The second stickied post is basically a collection of links to the relevant comments. I will add more Fossify apps to the recommendations in the next few days. Once again, there are a lot of glucic goodies there besides the Fossify apps.
I will continue to update the FOSS recommendations until the submission is archived; thereafter, I will create a new post to continue the updates.
On another note, remember to follow the rules of this subreddit. Recommending proprietary apps will result in you not being able to participate in this subreddit's activities. Trolls will be shot down on the spot. There will be no prior monitory engagement.
It's important to understand that the AutoModerator reads every single post and comment (and even every malicious edit). It acts swiftly.
For developers (or marketers) of proprietary software, recommending your app via comments or otherwise will only result in you getting banned. Don't think you'll get away with spamming your app, even in the comments sections of old posts.
Finally, for those requiring rooting assistance, there are other subreddits to peruse. This isn't an Android rooting subreddit, though the discussion of FOSS rooting mechanisms is permitted. For example, you can write about Magisk, but don't come here to ask about how to root your Motorola.
Have a productive day, and keep enjoying freedomware! ❤️
