I had a gaming PC as well, but decided I really didn't need it anymore. At the age of 34, I'm really not playing all that many news games anymore and when I do, I typically want to be in the living room on my TV.
I was so nervous about replacing everything with a Surface Pro 9, but it's doing an incredible job so far. For anyone nervous about giving the device a try, I wouldn't be nervous at all.
My things that I've been doing:
- Dota 2
- Watching YouTube
- Annotating documents for class
- Watching Apple TV and MLS Soccer Matches
- Taking the product on vacation with me.
I am shocked by how well this device performs, and I'm shocked that it can work with 2 external monitors running at 144hz. I'm using Bluestacks to emulator Android to run some things like Marvel Unlimited (and any other apps I had on my Mac), and otherwise everything is flawless. It replaced my Macbook Air, iPad Pro, and iPad Mini. Seriously, the device is great and I don't get the downplaying of its greatness online.
The fact that I can replace the NVME in the back and upgrade it as easily as I did is really amazing. Took my 256gb -> 1tb without issue.

The original was posted on /r/surface by /u/Puzzleheaded_Mud3802 on 2024-04-30 20:38:24. *** The rumour is that Microsoft has discouraged reviews of their latest models because they have better consumer models coming out soon with ARM CPUs that will crush Apple silicon. Hard to say what to believe, but it's a little surprising that nobody has written a word about these models. Being a long-time Surface-fanboy, I wanted to share my thoughts on these models. My work laptop was due for upgrade so I tried both models, finally settling for the Laptop (full disclosure, I own the OG Surface Laptop as well as SL4).
As anyone who reads the advertised features/specs can see, the Surface models have not changed at all in terms of design. In fact, the SL has not really changed at all since its launch in 2017. Why should it? The design is flawless with the exception of the touch screen where the ergonomics still fail. I'm surprised MS still insists on including it yet refusing to add a 360 degree hinge. The touch screen is useless, which drove me to try the Surface Pro 10. I won't spend much time discussing why I finally chose the Laptop. The Surface Pro is an amazing device, but the keyboard for my giant hands is just a little too small and my sweet spot for screen size is clearly 13.5 inches. Furthermore, I was surprised to notice that the Surface Pro didn't seem any lighter nor offer better battery life.
Most importantly, there are really only two alleged upgrades to the two new models:
-
New CPUs
-
a new anti-reflective display
Since anyone can google CPU benchmarks, these features translate to just two questions
-
What is the battery life?
-
Can I work outside?
- The real-world battery life on both models is around 7-8h with screen set to about 75-80% brightness. Surprisingly, the Laptop may have a slightly better battery life despite running the "H" variant i7 CPU instead of the "U" variant. This may be due to larger battery, but AFAIK MS does not provide battery specs.
- No, you cannot work outside. I can't notice any difference between the screens of the Laptop 4 and Laptop 6/Surface Pro 10. These are still glossy screens that are extremely sensitive to reflection. This was definitely a disappointment.
Should you get one? Yes, if you're like me and like the Surface line. Just know that nothing has changed in terms of the ergonomics. I like that, but I'm still a little confused as to what I'm supposed to do with the touchscreen. A 360 degree hinge on Laptop 7 would be nice.

This is an automated archive made by the Lemmit Bot.
The original was posted on /r/surface by /u/Icybubba on 2024-04-22 18:08:56. *** I'm asking because Surface Connect is basically Microsoft's equivalent of MagSafe from MacBooks. Apple ditched MagSafe for a while, but people clamored for it to come back and eventually it happened.
The weird thing for me is that, while people have clamored for MagSafe's return and praised Apple for bringing it back, people in the tech community are also begging for Microsoft to remove Surface Connect. It seems like a weird inconsistency with people there.
Personally for me, I like Surface Connect, knowing it won't yank my laptop if I trip on the cord like USB-C will, I also like have full access to all my USB ports while my laptop is charging, and I also like how it lays flush on the side.

The original was posted on /r/surface by /u/Sufficient_Year_1793 on 2024-04-11 22:02:47. *** I got today the Surface Pro 10 for business. a bit of background, I had Surface Laptop 3 before, as well as Surface Pro X. This thing is amazing. the sounds quality is so good, it is better than my Surface laptop was, and you cannot even compare with Pro X. I like the smooth screen, it gets very bright, need to wait for a brighter day to test it at max setting. It got warm when doing the initial installations and updates, but once it settled in it runs pretty silent. Installed software like Solidworks 2024, Fusion 360 and runs them fine. I have desktop with Radeon Pro and Ryzen but I dont really miss their performance, this runs well enough. The portability is great. Battery life needs more testing, but I have quite good feeling about it. I will update once I learn a bit more about it.

I have been look for the SP for more than years, the last SP I have was SP3, it's ages ago, although the previous experience on the SP3 is not that great, but after some research and test with the demo machine on the retail shop, I have been loved the SP9 and planned to buy it last year. But rumors said the SP10 will come out on Sep 2023 ... (you know what happened next)
And here I am.
I think I will do a benchmark test and based on different side of usage to review the new SP10 after I received it. To let everybody know if the SP10 is worth the money. Stay tune!

This is an automated archive made by the Lemmit Bot.
The original was posted on /r/surface by /u/gerahmurov on 2024-03-24 00:17:16. *** Serious question, not a joke. Microsoft tried to make Windows on ARM for who knows how many years. First two surface tablets. Surface Pro X. Surface 9 on ARM. Now we are expecting Surface 10 in May with articles full of excitement about them. Yet every previous attempt was disasterous or at least dissapointing with mostly "avoid to buy" or "buy intel version" reviews. Why people suddenly are excited? What has changed? Why should it work this time?
