YUROP
- Looking for mods - June 2024
Same post as last month: https://lemm.ee/post/31353574
Hello everyone,
I noticed I have been the only mod here, which is usually bad practice. Anyone wanting to join me?
The community is quite laid back, so usually not a lot of work to do. Modlog is public so power tripping is usually quite obvious.
It’s better if you are a regular commenter here, but that’s about it. I would also prefer Europeans, as it's the topic of the community.
See you in the comments
- Is pasta with sugar a breakfast?
Currently discussing this with my Bulgarian partner, apparently this is a normal breakfast in tomato Europe, either with or without feta cheese. I'm from potato Europe and have never heard of this madness!

I've had some Clark's in the past, but never for dress shoes.

> Around 1200 AD Bologna was one of the 10 biggest cities of Europe thanks to the old famous university and had around 100 towers as a demonstration/challenge of status between most important families (just like today in Manhattan, see American companies or men like Trump, Rockefeller..) and as defense purposes because of the civil war between Guelph (oversimplifying: papal) and Ghibelline (oversimplifying: imperial) families, which often resulted in murders. Also attack purposes sometimes: hit a passerby in the street from above with arrows or boiling oil and take refuge inside. A civil war in a small city is no joke.
> Today around 30 towers remaning, not a bad result in around 800 years.. some of them you can still climb. Some others were demolished, others felt in centuries (oh yeah, some killing people). In the second pic you can see the most famous 2:
> Asinelli Tower is our pride: built in 1120 AD, 100 meters (320 ft), today still the highest medieval tower existing of the world (as an example, the first time a US skyscraper exceeded 100 meters - 320 ft was only in 1890 AD, 770 years later), was probably the highest tower of the world of its time. Garisenda Tower, the smaller tower of the two, less famous but more leaning than Pisa Tower and much older (1110 AD vs 1373 AD, so older than Gengis Khan for example) & in peril of fallin' down but under restoration. That pic doesn't do it justice:
- Europeans, when is the best time to do a Ryanair check in: as soon as possible, or a bit later?
Asking because I feel like sometimes if you check in as soon as possible they give you crappy seats, but if you wait for a bit the crappy seats are taken by other people so you get better ones.
No serious evidence, so asking here for other experiences

- Following feedback from the !football@lemmy.world community, we'll be having the discussions over there for the Euro 2024.
There is still a bit of news for the usual football news, but those should stop in the coming weeks as every national championship / league will finish.
I will post about the prediction tournament over there too.

- Longe Côte
I was talking with a friend about the basque coast in france and he told me
> They do a sport called 'longe côte' where you walk quickly along the beach with water up to you chest.
And what do you know, this morning i saw two groups of longe côteurs. A fascinating local sport.
- Europeans, what is your favorite European capital?
Just coming back from Madrid, it was really nice. Wide pedestrian streets, beautiful buildings, nice terraces and amazing food.
I guess being Belgian I always have some negativity towards capital city (Brussels gave its name to the phenomenon of lack of urban planning leading to ugliness, bruxellisation), but this made me reconsider this.
So, dear Europeans, what is your favorite capital?
- Should we create a community for Euro 2024?

> For context, my knowledge of current football is almost non existent. > > Yearly football doesn't appeal a lot to me, but what I like about the Euro or the World Cup is seeing a large number of countries represented, and the popular enthusiasm during the matches. > > I have fond memories of watching matches on a giant screen or at a friend's house, and no matter what the outcome, it's generally a great time. > > So two questions: > > - would you guys be interested in a !euro2024@instance community? It would be mainly for match feeds and sharing other news. > - Would anyone be interested in a prediction contest? You don't have to know a thing about it, it's usually the people who know the least who win.

- [Ask Europe] I'm going to Madrid tomorrow for 3 days, any restaurants or bars recommendations? The visits and monuments are pretty much covered
Basically title.
I'm going with my parents, so looking for more chill bars and restauranrs than clubs.
We'll be staying around the Plaza Mayor.
For visits, we'll be doing the Retiro Park, Fountains of Neptune and Cibeles, Temple of Debod, Royal Palace, Royal Theater, the Cathedral and Prado Museum
Thanks!
