I really hope this is gonna be a landslide election and it's possible for the Dems to take a page out of Waltz' book and pass a whole bunch of meaningful legislation, which will help carry on support for the Dems next election as well. But oh well, I might be too optimistic.
About 2 or 3 weeks ago I would have thought that kind of talk is way too optimistic. Now that Biden stepped aside, Kamala stepped up, and most people rallied around her, and you add in Walz now...well, damn, I'm trying to think of a time where I've ever been this optimistic about the Democrats.
And I'm one of the people that was lukewarm about Kamala (at best). I'm going to vote like my life depends on it even though I'm not in a swing state, but still...
If we want that then it’s not enough to just get Harris into office. We’ve got to win Congress. And we’ve got to win enough of the Senate that any would-be Manchins can’t stop everything. That’s the only way to pass meaningful legislation.
I just want to make sure the people in the back are aware of this too, because I’ve heard lots of people complain that the Dems didn’t do things in the past four years that they would need real control to do
Definitely, my hope is that if that doesn't happen this time, the momentum will carry forward to the next election as well and the electorate will see that the Dems can actually make life better for people. But it's a dream, I know that.
I've been saying for years now that every politician with an R after their name needs to be removed from government. Then, the existing Democrat party can logically splinter into its own progressive/moderate/conservative divisions (I might not agree with Democratic conservatives, but at least they're not completely insane and can be reasoned with).
What a hopeful thought, that the Republicans might finally do this to themselves. I hope you're right.
