Does it also pull support for old Linux distributions?
5 1 ReplyNot directly but I'd think they'd pull support for older system packages & kernels, which would eventually affect you. There's not really much of a reason not to upgrade your Linux distros though.
20 0 ReplyThey donât support new technologies (Wayland), why would they drop support for old ones?
5 0 ReplySteam has only ever supported the latest Ubuntu LTS and Steam OS.
2 0 ReplyIt still works the same on any distro with SystemD. Side note, I have seen people getting Steam to work on Void and Artix.
2 0 ReplyI use Steam and I run Alpine
1 0 ReplyThat's pretty cool. Do you have a potato computer or do you just like a minimal system?
2 0 ReplyI have a minimal system on my Thinkpad T440p
0 0 ReplyNice, I have a T420 myself. I love that machine. I was running Peppermint OS for a while. Until version 11, Hasn't been the same since 10. The update from 10 to 11 kind of took all the magic out of it for me. Now that machine runs EndeavourOS.

What support?
1 11 ReplyIt's Steam; you might wish they had more support on Linux, but you can't say that Steam doesn't support Linux.
9 0 ReplyHonestly I struggle to imagine how Steam could support it more.
10 0 ReplySteam client needs the XWayland translation layer to work on any modern DE, plus 32-bit libraries (which are not installed by default).

He could be alluding to valve only supporting their own distro and Ubuntu LTS officially.
