I remember seeing one with a woman detective as the main character on Arte long ago. So I did some research: It's called The No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency, produced by the BBC and filmed in Botswana.

And off topic but just FYI, The N1 Ladies Detective Agency is a very popular series of novels also set in Africa by author Alexander McCall Smith
