The systemd hate is overblown in my opinion. I've never had much of a problem with it.
- Same. I don't care if it "doesn't follow the UNIX philosophy" or whatever, it gets the job done, is IMHO easy to work with and many guides assume that you have it.
- I, also, use systemd.... When running Wayland and x11 window managers there are quite a few dependencies on systemd that are easiest ti handle by just using it. ;)
- You can, BTW, enable systemd on MX, no problems. I do. It's a good distro besides that.
