Shouldn't the sea monster be in the wagon full of water, "paddling" the sand?
Don't be silly, it's obviously going for the dunes.
Exactly. But he's a sea creature, so he brings with him something to keep him in the sea but experiencing the dunes.
Whereas the land creature brings with him something to keep him "on land" but experience the waves.
