Historically, elections for the Speaker of the lower house of Parliament in India have never been held. Bjp had broken the norm of the most senior parliamentarian being the pro-tem speaker.
Kodikunnil Suresh, Congress' MP from the Mavelikkara assembly of Kerala, was the seniormost MP(8 terms, 25+ years of experience as an MP), but he was not made the pro-tem speaker.

Another norm that the ruling and opposition sides come to a consensus such that the deputy speaker post is given to someone outside of the ruling party, while the speaker is chosen by the ruling party is also being challenged by the Bjp.

So we're seeing election for the post of Lok Sabha speaker as a first.

  • At 240/293, BJP/NDA is exercising its power more openly than at 303/353 while INC/UPA appear to expect too much upon gaining from 052/091 to 099/234.

Once one recalls how the opposition had treated Vajpayee and his majority, it is not difficult to see that they have zero high ground here and the publicity they are generating in aftermath of 2024 lok sabha elections, is not raising their ground.
