U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert faces her first election in a Republican primary since she fled a tough reelection bid in Colorado and ran in a more favorably red congressional district across the state.
U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert faces voters in Colorado’s GOP primary election Tuesday after she fled a tough reelection race to run in a more Republican-leaning district, harried along the way by accusations of carpetbagging and still bruised by an embarrassing video.
Boebert, who planted her MAGA flag in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2020, has amassed conservative clout across the country. But that limelight has also meant public scandals. Her decision to switch districts came after video surfaced of her vaping and causing a disturbance with a date at a musical production of Beetlejuice.
Boebert said she made the switch to ensure another Republican could win her old district, which she nearly lost in 2022, and she blamed outside groups for targeting her. But Boebert left the district having already become a fundraising magnet for the likely Democratic candidate, who has pulled in millions that may help him flip a district that has leaned Republican in recent years.
On Tuesday, for the first time since all of that happened, Colorado voters will get their say. The ones in her new district will weigh her candidacy against more traditional GOP rivals. Those include former state Sen. Jerry Sonnenberg, current state Reps. Mike Lynch and Richard Holtorf and parental rights advocate Deborah Flora.
If any of us just vaped in a theater we would probably be asked to leave but it wouldn’t be a big deal. It somehow seems like it’s worse because an elected official should behave better than my dumb ass 8 beers deep at a dive bar bathroom.
Obviously the exhibitionism is even trashier and more upsetting
Not even mentioned in the article! In what world does the author live that "vaping" was the scandal that prompted her to flee her district? Conservatives couldn't care less that she was being rude with vape smoke at a play.
He's a complete ass, but I have to say, for history's sake, I'm glad we have video of a congressman vamping on the floor of congress. Truly the modern day's version of beating each other half to death with canes.
It's literally the first line of the summary. There was a district that most closely matched her previous one, but she's running in a district she doesn't live in because it would be easier to win.
And so the district that she had before, which is now a different district, because the borders have moved, and is less likely to elect her.
This is a FUCKING STUPID ARGUMENT. It doesn't matter whether I'm right or you are. It's fucking semantics. The district that elected her no longer exists. Another one does now that contains a lot of the same people.
You literally started the argument you're now upset about. For some reason you thought it was important enough to tell me I was wrong, but after people told you your interpretation is wrong (or at best, in your evaluation, pointless) you're suddenly wondering why we're even talking about it.
You didn't read the summary and felt compelled to make a point no one else here or in political coverage agrees with, just tuck your tail and slink away.
