A bit of a setback for Elder this morning. The welfare person at his school suggested we try next term for three morning sessions a week in class for an hour each time. When I mentioned it to Elder he had a meltdown, couldn't sleep and now isn't going to this morning's meeting at all 😟😔 It seems like a bit of a leap from where he is now, and I only told him what it might look like and I didn't push, but I guess it's my fault and I feel like I've set him back by even mentioning it. His therapist actually suggested that online virtual schools might be the solution for now because he's missed the whole first year of highschool up to this point, but the problem with that is Mr P is dyslexic and is not au fait with internet and tech and I have work, so there'd be nobody at home in a position to support him. I'm going to talk to my boss about more flexible hours (the financial planner in my head says, "but we need the money dammit!"), but I'm not optimistic as it is a factory job after all. Virtual Schools Victoria, aside from when the classes are held via video conferencing, are actually very flexible in their scheduling. Going to work now with all this running around in my head and had to put it somewhere 🤯😵💫
I dreamt I had weird creatures/fungus/organisms all under my skin. It started with weird ant things coming out of my belly button the it was everything from giant green amoebas to insect type things to fungi. And one giant long thing up one leg that was a tracking device.
Took forever to get to a doctor but he was helping me get them out. Then there was some guy chasing me oh and I had to get to a wedding.
I am bloody exhausted. Off to check my whole body for weird pimples.....(Shudder)…....
That thread on the melbourne sub about the guy who had the mattresses dumped in his yard really makes me mad that the EPA, Council or Police won't do anything about it. They're just letting a scummy business owner get away with it.
Finished writing letters to all the submissions for my writing competition. They all did such a magnificent job, and some of the stories were genuinely really good with interesting themes and ideas and twists that I decided to make them all winners. So they all get signed copies of my book.
I went to one school on Wednesday and announced the winners at assembly. Public speaking is not fun, but I think I did ok. But what really got me was as I was sitting and waiting, one of the kids randomly asks for a high five. Which I obliged. And the girl next to him goes 'Don't you know who that is? That's [my name]. The author.', which is a all sorts of absurd and crazy and awesome and yeah.
On the way to school my daughter came across a flock of little corellas. Of course she took snaps. I think they made her day. It's also the last day of term so it's double happiness ☺
Bloody white-ass boomers pushing their way onto PTV. Everyone else stood to the side, but these four just had to make sure they got the seats they wanted... Even though there was only, like, 10 of us on the platform, who got on a whole ass train.
And they call my generation ungrateful and mannerless. Pfft.
Have to say I am fond of squabbling with the old man about how to go about the DIY stuff. There's never any love lost but it is hilarious when there's disagreement.
Sort of a pseudo argument. You can be both right but wrong. You agree to disagree, then disagree on agreeing to finally agree to agree, but deep down you disagree.
I guess that's bonding.
Edit: Aand the rail in question. Bad bwoy be 970mm for dayz which is to code solid as. No one be fallin down them steps fank you very much.
Today I'm seeing my friend who I haven't seen in six months (she lives in Sydney) and she's going to surprise another one of my friends :)
Also I was greeted by the doggo when I woke up this morning, which is a rare occurrence. I believe he sees me as lower than him on the food chain hahaha
Had a moment today where a modern life tech thing baffled me (online access type thingy), and I got frustrated (eventually solved it). I’m not that old but I’m not young either. It used to be utterly effortless to keep up with the latest life admin requirements, but am finding that occasionally I now feel out of the loop. Is this the tip of the iceberg? I don’t want it to be. I don’t want to age and become useless at new stuff that comes out. I Do. not. like. It.
Wow the music down at the Firelight festival is louder than any music I've ever heard from any event and that includes NYE celebrations. Usually the music barely registers with me but it's proper loud. Yelling get out of my yard from the balcony has proven unsuccessful. Stupid festival. Might go down there soon and just coz though.
Home again after Crazy Day of Hell Week. I am comforting myself with the reflection that it's a whole year before the next one. I am enjoying a much deserved glass of wine and some godlike snax (fancy as shit sandwiches from the freezer) as I cbf cooking tonight due to exhaustion. Going to tap out fairly early tonight I think. Have a drink of whatever on me folks to celebrate.
Whenever I plug something into the usb charger thingy, it reminds me of a conversation I had with my husband.
Me: Um, it's Flashing! panicked voice
Him: It's ok. They're just talking to each other. What do you think is going to happen, blow up?
Me: Yes. Flashing means danger!
In all fairness to me, he has cautioned me about plugging things into the right chargers. Something about volts or something. I don't know. I don't always listen.
I usually just ask "do I use my phone charger, my watch charger or the blue flashy one".
Today is Crazy Day of Hell Week. EOFY can get in the bin. If you are thinking of seeing your accountant to sort out your finances, please do so last week or even better - last month. Today is too late for anything to happen this financial year. Now I just have to convince the general public of that requirement.
discovered I can easily pull my stupid sliding windows out, meaning cleaning them just went from "Damn near impossible" to "a decent project, but perfectly doable". Hopefully the rain holds out a bit on the weekend cause I'd love to tackle a few more. theyve got 15 years of moss and dirt built up.
So i was driving across town to go get a coffee from a place I like for a special treat when I'm caught by a cough and sneeze at the same time. I accidentally launch stuff out of both my nose and mouth at the same time and it lands across the lower part of my hoodie and top of my trackies, Fortunately not all over the car! I look down only to discover that thanks to the volume, thickness and colour it now looks like I've blown a load all over myself.
Figured I'll just go through maccas drive through, only to get parked in the waiting bay! I wipe it up as best I can with a face mask in the car, but it looks like I've got giant wet sticky patches over my groin. Someone comes over to the window to hand me a coffee. I think they had a funny look on their face but I couldnt be sure so i wasnt sure if I was supposed to say "I swear to god its not cum!" so I just said nothing and hoped they didnt notice.
Nearly died of embarrassment.
Still struggling health wise and having to jump through bureaucratic hoops.

(I went to hospital and was admitted overnight but didn’t get the intervention I was hoping for/need. Just an escalation of an existing referral.) This pattern may continue for some time so I’ll probably not be posting much about it and really downplaying it. Because it’s a bummer and nobody wants to read about all that for months or years.
I’ve found something easy that speeds combing but might still go for the low maintenance cut when I have the chance. I’ve had the style before, so I know it looks sophisticated and suits me well.
I haven’t been able to do much cooking or gardening lately but might still go and post to the instances in a bit. Pump up the comment numbers. 🙂
Caught up with an old colleague for drinks tonight. We had a good gossip / bitching session about our previous employer, both of who we had problems with, and talking about how much better we are off now.
Then I was craving noodles for dins - still thinking about how good this was. Hit the spot.
Auditing my take away coffee cops since I can get a discount if I use it, people seem to be accepting them again and lets face it tinyest is FAR more likely to get me crook anyway.
Turns out I need 2 lids and 2 rubber bands. A new glass one is 30 something bucks, so wanna assume what the lids and bands cost? Yep. 50 bucks. Far out. So much for environmentally friendly.
Mrs swears she has seen them in op shops but I never have, can anyone confirm? Or did anyone find a cheaper way to get replacement parts?
A little birdy told me (a reliable birdy) that hospitals spending cash like it was monopoly money during COVID is a big part of the reason they are having to make hard cuts now.
Honestly seems like there was a lot of overreacting during COVID. And the fact that no state government wants to review their actions suggests to me they know this and don't want to be held to account.
I am sick of socks having only two or three wears before they get a hole. They are not too cheap, 10-15 a pair. My nails are good, I do do walking, so maybe socks are made for a more sedentary lifestyle. I can't wear tradie socks as they are too thick to fit in my shoes and I have wide feet. I have tried many brands and stores.
I bought some snoopy socks from typo/cotton on today, let's see how they hold up.
What are your faves? Looking for some recommendations here.
I have to say the electric blanket was a good investment, better than the heated throw. Because you're able to use an electric blanket under the covers that traps heat and gets much warmer. Very good.
Hot water bottles are also amazing. (Just be careful to replace them every two/three years or at any sign of the rubber perishing. Or they will split/leak and scald you.)
Mission to cbd successful. My glasses are fixed like new, got some new socks ( socks are another story 🤬 ) , got some lovely yarn to darn with and do that visible mending thing. I also noticed practically no one in the city was wearing clothing with patterns on, no prints, no weaves, no knitted patterns. Just block colours. Come home to Carlton, hooray, bright clothes again.
All my overtime over the past week clocked up to an extra entire day of work 😵💫 Luckily my workplace was super understanding and flexible and have redirected Monday's site visits so I can take ALL of Monday off in lieu to get desperately caught up on a bunch of other things! 😌 I'm gonna sleep well tonight. Once I've finished standing around with my niece at this impossibly slow check in queue... It has been a solid hour... dont fly Scoot you guys.
Had the windows open a bit to take advantage of the (relatively) balmy weather. Apparently it was All Too Cold for the cats, who are both curled up in the loungeroom and the bedroom respectively with their tails around their noses.
My cold has mostly gone but my sinuses are still full and it's causing my teeth to ache. I hope it's not a sign I'm getting a sinus infection or something, I have an appointment to have a broken tooth with a root near the sinus cavity removed next week and I'm a bit concerned a sinus problem could prevent that happening. I've been waiting months for this appointment already.
Anyone know anything amusing going on next Sunday during the day? Scheduled power outage so the house will be utterly miserable. Had been thinking Deadpool but remembered the date wrong. Gah!
I have been sorting out some end of financial year stuff and am pleased to say I have exceeded my Superannuation balance goal for the year.
I also received an awesome amount of bank interest, especially compared to previous years where interest rates were so low they were barely worth considering. I do have Coles Mastercard to thank for a lot of it though, as they gave me a 0% for 15 months offer which allowed me to max out my card at no cost and leave nearly $10k in a savings account earning hundreds of dollars in interest payments.
Update: I made some space to give cities skylines 2 a go. Oh boy it was a slideshow. I think I was getting around 10fps on low graphics which looked really bad anyway.
Decided to just do a refund for it. I don't think I will have a computer capable of running it until the 2030s. But given how much they were cooling for bad optimisation when it came out, I thought they would've worked on some better optimisation by now
TIL my computer clock is not necessarily correct!! I assumed it was somehow automatically synced with clocks via the net. All fixed now and I know better. Only 8.3 seconds fast but it may as well be hours, the fact is it was wrong.

Creature Comforts. Amazon. The Story of making All Creatures Great and Small. I put on this 2 decades old documentary hoping for a feel good doco about the making of a tv series I grew up watching in my early teens and loved.
It wasn't. It was more about the real life of the writer of the books, Alf Wight, and how his books revolutionised the treatment of pets.
I personally think the increase in living standards after WWII , giving people more disposable income to spend on pets, was a bigger factor. Pet owners were asking for treatment for all the TrickyWoos out there..
Anyway, it was still a good show. Just wish it had Robert Hardy and Peter Davison interviews.
