So like $69k a year, which isn't bad, per se, but in many cities that's still not enough to afford a three-bedroom apartment.

That's a fair point, but if we're imagining a world with a twenty hour work week we can also imagine a world where life's basics aren't made unaffordable by capitalist greed.
Why do you need there bedrooms for yourself?
Because children shouldn't be forced to work so that we can afford their bedrooms
I think they assumed it was one person living in the apartment.
