@AVincentInSpace@pawb.social jas volunteered to run a live watch on cytube the day afterward (approx 7pm Monday). Posts and links should be coming (and see comments below on the idea).
Good question! It’s a movie watching thing done over on mastodon that’s been going for a while. Works pretty much like this, runs once a week I think, and is focused on classic/old monster
Movies.
I could set up a synchronized watch party for this (complete with video player and live chat) on cytu.be if there's interest.
Cytube is a wonderful little FOSS webapp that displays a video (which can be a YouTube video, one on a number of other services, or a raw MP4 file hosted on an HTTPS server somewhere, which I could host) synchronized to everyone in the room and provides a chat box alongside it. It also supports custom chat emotes.
You don't need to create an account to watch or chat. You can just pull up a URL and the video will automatically start from where everyone else is, and if you type a username for yourself in the chat box you'll join chat as a guest.
It may be a bit late to get interest right now for this cycle/month (hope I'm wrong), in which case I/we may tap your shoulder next month, as this is still a bit of an experiment.
But as I'm not on top of that sort of thing and not in the major time zones, I'm not really placed to organise it ... so help and self-organisation is very much appreciated!
It shouldn't be too big of a deal for me. Just create a new account on Cytube (so I'm not using one linked to my real identity) and turn my HTTP server back on. I just so happen to have an MP4 copy of Big Trouble In Little China already downloaded. All you'd have to do is update this post with a link to the Cytube room.
One thing, though -- I am going to spend all day tomorrow on an airplane so if you could push this out to the day after I'd be able to help.
