iFixit has announced it will end its partnership with Samsung, effective June 2024. The collaboration began in 2022 to provide genuine repair parts for Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets. However, iFixit cited several issues that led to the termination.
The primary reasons for the split include Samsung's high cost and low quantity of spare parts, which made repairs expensive and impractical for many consumers, leading them to replace their devices instead of repairing them. Additionally, the design of Samsung's devices remained challenging, often involving glued-together components that complicated repairs and increased costs [❞][❞][❞].
iFixit also faced contractual issues with Samsung, which required repair shops to sign a restrictive Independent Repair Provider contract. This contract demanded disclosure of customer information and enforced other stringent requirements that iFixit found unacceptable [❞].
Despite ending the partnership, iFixit will continue to sell Samsung parts and provide existing repair guides but will not develop new ones in collaboration with Samsung. Instead, they will focus on supporting other manufacturers and expanding their parts catalog for a broader range of devices [❞][❞][❞].
