Man, we need a match concept like this today.

So I'm watching that dvd I posted about recently. The have a great concept for a match that could easily be done today.

Imagine the Usos and Roman Reigns reforms the bloodline. And they have a match with The New Day (Xavier and Kofi). But it's done for the tag titles in a match format that WWE has never done before.

Imagine on the outside of the ring, Big E has 2 towels. One with Kofi's name, and one with Xaviers name.

On the opposite corner Heyman has 2 towels as well. One with Jimmys name, one with Jay. There's no pinfalls. No disqualifications. No submissions. It's an elimination style tag match. Big E has to throw in the towel on one or both of his team members. And Heyman has to do the same. If you throw in 1 of your towels, that member is eliminated. Then it becomes 2 on 1 but still a tag match.

I really feel like this format has the possibility for soooooo many different outcomes.

You could have the ref be distracted, and one manager laid out. Then someone else throws a towel in. Manager starts getting to their feet, just as the ref notices the towel.

You could have a double cross where the manager betrays the team, or betrays an individual member of the team.

You could have a manager heart breakingly throw in the towel to protect their client/team mate.

Theres SOOOOO many options!

The version I'm watching used an electrified cage, but I don't think that adds to anything. The top of the cage caught fire while Terry Funk was swinging on the cage, and then The Great Muta spit mist on the fire, as JR says "See, Muta came prepared. I'd rather he spray the fire out, than spray a person."

The cage just seems like a silly gimmick, but the match format seems solid.

  • speaking of match concepts, i've had one that i used in my efeds for the longest time that i've never seen anyone actually replicate irl but it would be interesting to see.

the match(es) themselves were called agony and ecstasy. basically you have a normal two ring battle royal battle royal but but the winner would either become champion or go on to face the champion at the next supercard (depending on storylines at the time) while the last 7 eliminated would be seeded in order of elimination.

so basically after that you'd have matches either that night or between the battle royal and the next supercard (again depending on storylines).

7th ranked would face 6th rank; the winner of that would go on to face the 5th rank.. and so on, so basically the earlier you were eliminated, the more grueling journey to the belt is. on the other hand, you have the possibility of being the second to last eliminated in the battle royal and having an easy road to the title by virtual of only having one match but if you lose, your entire shot is gone.

anyway this post just unlocked a memory so i felt the need to share it :)
