U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken says Israel has accepted a bridging proposal for a cease-fire and hostage release in Gaza, and called on Hamas to do the same, without saying whether it had addressed gaps cited by the militant group.
No word on the terms yet, but if it requires returning hostages or any Israeli monitoring against rearmament, I imagine it's surely a non-starter for Hamas. Just seems like posturing to make it look like the US is seeking peace without forcing the total Israeli capitulation that would require.
Pretty much. It's all about optics now, because the US knows that they can't really change the minds of the crazy ethno nationalists who run Israel, and that they need to show they're "doing something".
But we all know there are plenty of Zionists in congress who will prevent any form of ceasefire where Israel doesn't take over more ground. It's what they've been doing for decades.
