Because you have to download the app (so they can gather your telemetry data to sell to advertisers) and pay for it via their credits system.
It’s the same reason everything is moving towards apps instead of websites.

I tried the app a few years ago and it was decent until they tried some really obnoxious ways to monetize it. As I recall you had to purchase “tokens” and use them to access content. Has it gotten any better or do they still make you jump through hoops?

Man that sounds obnoxious. I've never used it before. I saw it in a list of sites and thought it was worth sharing. Turns out... it might no have been the best share. Sorry ha.
