Found the original fireplace mantel half buried behind the garage.

Another before:

It's green Vermont slate, figured out that it was originally painted black and marbled. Victorian thing, faux marble mantels. Fireplace is also Victorian faux, red brick, would have had logs and a red light. I'll be putting in a gas insert at some point.

Started at 220grit, and worked up to 1000. Finished with a 50/50 mix of boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits:

Dude that's a great truck too!
- '98 Ranger XLT with the V6. My fourth vehicle, lifetime. Keep her running tight, throws no codes. Recently redid all the gaskets from the intake manifold and up.
  Added hitch and trailer brake system recently. Made the kayak/cargo rack a few years ago.
  It pulled a two horse trailer with three pet potbelly pigs, giant fluffy dog, two kayaks on top, a bed full of tools, jump seat area full of fragile stuff, son in the passenger seat. 700 miles, 14 hours, 3000-3500 rpm at 70mph. Overdrive had to be off the entire time. Never stuttered.
  I love that little truck.
  
  Man I had the same color 94 5 speed with the tiny engine and loved it for years...God I miss a small truck like that.

Looks sharp! Nice work on it. That’s a fun history behind it too.
