Powerful 6.8-magnitude earthquake rattles Morocco, with five believed dead
The earthquake struck late Friday evening, with the epicentre 75 kilometres west of Marrekesh, a major economic centre.
Atlas mountains where it happened are partially the product of the African plate ramming into the Eurasian plate. Previously they were built up after ramming into the eastern US and creating the Appalachian mountains.

Dumb question but: is Morocco anything like the Gerudo town in Zelda BOTW?
A little bit, but not everywhere. Closer to the Sahara desert yes and Ouarzazate where some famous movies have been made.
But there are also forests with monkeys, mountains, pastures, canyons and cities with busy markets.
