Ah i see, time for ford to go down in the history books.
Not like that will happen, but i truly think they deserve that as a result for even considering this.
I'm already sick of the amount of ads that find a way into my private living space, but i've managed to negate 90% of them.
"We need to make money" yeah sure, but not at the cost of me. If you want to make money off of me i need you to sell me stuff i get to keep and are actually worth the cost.
I work too much and make too little to allow them to invade my private space.
Time for a law to be passed that kills off this bad idea permanently.
With governments (of all alignments) in the pockets of, or otherwise under the influence of, the very large corporations whose advertising would stand to benefit from this, I have only the following to say: Good luck with that.
Maybe so at this point in history. Don't be surprised when Ford implements it or something similar at a later date. Ads are in most everything now and they have already sold your data to insurance companies.
"it's just in the corner, when you drive near one of our Partner companies"
"it's just a square on the main menu"
"it's just a brief full-screen suggestion"
"it's just whispering sweet nothings at a forced-volume into your Harman Kardon premium audio system (we have always done this for plebs who opted for our standard audio system)"
"it just adds an additional waypoint to your route, like our new Signature Partner, Dunkin' Doughnuts. Get a free small coffee when you spend $15 and say the keywords 'ADS4LIFE' into the drive-thru robot"
"it's only taking control and driving you in comfort to your nearest Ford dealership to trade-in your vehicle at 100,000 miles"
"it's only siphoning your blood plasma to keep the FordOS AI financially afloat"
"it's only recording your banking details at the ATM and charging you a monthly weekly fee to support and assist you with our cutting-edge technology"
"GIVE US ALL YOUR MONEY NOW OR WE ARE DRIVING YOU OFF THE GRAND CANYON"
Getting patents for hyper-annoying things, taking shit for possibility thinking about employing the tactic in the future, keeping other manufacturers from being able to without paying for it...
Thanks for calling attention to this. Oftentimes when a patent is applied for there is no intent to implement it. This is actually a clever way to get ahead of the direction of the market and license to other manufacturers.
Having said that, it's still Ford, and once it's generally accepted for this type of ad to be displayed they'll jump on it real quick.
This is a patent troll, stiffling innovation gaming the patent system for something [we hope] they never intend to produce. Even if it’s a horrible idea we want stifled, that’s still a patent troll
I've been saying it for years - business people are the scum of the earth. The whole situation is so stupid. Why do we train people how to make take as much money as they can... why not teach them to not be assholes instead?
I knew someone who taught Marketing at a business school and we had some really weird discussions. They do teach students not to be assholes. They do teach ethics. They do teach respect for the viewer. But what they teach for Marketing is very different from what we experience from Marketing.
From my experiences it goes more like this "In an ideal world, we'd behave this way. We're not in an ideal world though and your competitors have no problem doing this so you should know what to do, in case the market determines it's the best course." with a knowing wink thrown in.
I want to blame shareholders. The constant drive to fuck the people working for you to make an extra 10 cents is disgusting. Record profits though! Here have a pizza party, only 1 slice per person though, more isn't in the budget.
Getting patent is fucking expensive, also it is afaik region-limited. You can get your patent for say EU, you need lawyers and lot of money for that, and if you would like to extend that to US, you need new lawyers and more money.
So it is out of realm of what's possible for normal person.
If other people buy these, you won't have much of a choice for much longer. I predict every auto manufacturer jumping directly onto this bandwagon if it doesn't sink Ford's sales (it won't).
People like you and I are going to end up driving 2005 Honda "classic cars" 30 years past their lifespan.
Honestly there are a lot of variables involved. There will always be a market for cars without all that nonsense, and it's cheaper to produce a car without a touch screen. If I have to drive shitmobiles to avoid having to deal with "car as a service", then that's what I will do.
The product development team took a page from tech industry players and adapted Agile methodologies with the goal of developing hardware at the speed of software while recognizing and preserving Ford’s legacy and expertise in vehicle product development.
User stories are one of the core components of an agile program.
User stories are a few sentences in simple language that outline the desired outcome. They don't go into detail. Requirements are added later, once agreed upon by the team.
For example, user stories might look like:
As Max, I want to invite my friends, so we can enjoy this service together.
As Sascha, I want to organize my work, so I can feel more in control.
As a manager, I want to be able to understand my colleagues progress, so I can better report our sucess and failures.
As Dominic, I have a hard time finding enough advertisements to view. Many of the advertisements I do view are not sufficiently-targeted at me.
As Richard, my submissive fantasies have gone unfulfilled. My truck is large and powerful, but does not seize control of my life in the sort of confident and assertive fashion that I would find satisfying.
As Denise, a Blade Runner fan, I am unhappy that I cannot visit a technology-driven dystopia.
Ford stopped making the types of vehicles I want to own several years ago.
Until my current vehicle, every previous vehicle (over a period of 43 years) I've owned was a small, low options, affordable, fuel efficient 4 cylinder Ford.
Since they stopped making anything like that to focus on F150s and bigger, I now own a Corolla.
It looks like you're about to die in a horrible 40-car collision! Don't fret, though! Mutual Assurance can protect your family for just pennies a day! You'll really regret not signing up for this policy!
We regret to inform you that your claim has been denied as your policy does not cover accidents due to distracted driving. Please refer to the attached dash cam footage showing claimant watching a Mutual Assurance ad while the vehicle was in motion. Have a nice day and thank you for choosing Mutual Assurance!
I rarely have mine on, but that's because a mate snapped the antenna off. It's got one Slim Dusty tape in it, and most of the time only the left speaker works.
The Bluetooth speaker on the dash plays the poddies, and holding the volume button on the phone skips any ads.
Radio was so bad with endless ads and blather, with the occasional pop sing, that it was just not worth listening to. I kept finding myself in continuous “seek” trying to find a channel playing music and it was completely aggravating.
Now with endless streaming music of my choice , no ads or blather, I’ve gone from never listening to music in my car or home, to always. It’s like I’ve discovered a new form of entertainment.
I’ve had a new car about 8 months, and I’ve listened to the radio only once to verifying know how to use it. But Spotify is always there!
If it gets used at all, that would be the best case scenario.
And it might even go down like things have with GM and their blocking Android Auto and Carplay (affecting their bottom line). And it might even affect enough that they'd stop.
But that'd be the beat case scenario (still feasible, even in hypercapitalismworld. But unlikely)
Really? My battery is under my spare in the trunk.
My lithium batteries on the other hand I think you have to remove the back seats to access, but I honestly hope I can afford to trade it in before I need it.
I mean, you low key proving OPs point. That is a pain in the ass to get to. For basically, forever it's been under the hood in the front, and the easiest thing to get to.
So phones are illegal but not this? What in the actual fuck is going on right now. We are being forced so many damn ads it's nearly impossible to get away from them. Now I need to worry about someone trying to hit skip instead of focusing on driving. As a motorcyclist I'm now even more terrified. Half the drivers now already don't look up from their phones....
Hello 911, what seems to be the problem?....1 of 3"like a good neighbor State farm is there!" 2 of 3 "like a good neighbor State farm is there!" 3 of 3 "every day, kids from Africa like Mary here go without food or water so they can't feed their dog any, would you please donate $5 to Save their dogs foundation? Every dollar that comes in brings good nutritional meals for the dogs like Chicken, beef, etc, food that they would never otherwise be able to get due to their owners poverty level. So c'mon and donate, you will get this shiny 'I saved a dog's 🖊️ pen!..... ma'am, yeah, I was just in an accident! Can you please send an ambulance, my leg is broken and I'm bleeding fas... Well the law offices of Lark and Co can help you get what you deserve!"....madis....2 of 7...." Squirt! The fresh market!"
We had that. It was called radio. And then Satellite radio. If we could not continue this that would be awesome. Buy an EV they said. No thanks. No new cars of any kind for me.
This sort of crap has fuck all to do with EVs. Why do so many people seem to think that EVs are being enshittified any more than cars with combustion engines?
Ford has an abundance of EV's and has been making EV's for a couple of decades now. Automakers track all types of information about drivers, and it's exhausting and all the new EV's have all kinds of new tech specifically to track drivers just like ICE vehicles. The push for EV's is pretty strong right now, and that's the point of my comment. There's a lot of media telling people that if they're gonna buy a new car it should be an EV. Teslas are apparently being towed so that law enforcement can use the sensors and cameras to collect information and evidence of crimes. Then this news hits, coupled with an article a couple of weeks ago about how they've also patented a way for cop cars to more accurately determine who's speeding and this whole present is a dystopian nightmare.
You may only want to think about the good that EV's do, but not all of us are so blindly optimistic. EV's are one place where Automakers in particular are making new strives to add more tech to vehicles. Yes in a lot of cases more so than ICE vehicles.
Somehow you took "no new cars for me" to mean just EV's and that makes me question some things about you.
edit for the downvotes : i'm not proAdvertisement. I'm just considering a situation where, let's say in a city with a shared car service, you rent cars for a couple of hours you need, instead of owning a car (it already exists in some cities). I guess some people would be willing to see a couple of ads instead of paying for the rental and in that case: why not
they probably have rental car companies in mind, where if the driver has no choice but a ford with ads, then that's what they get. and you can bet your ass that if forcing ads on customers means a lower price for their fleet, that's exactly what they're going to do
Free for the first year and they will eventually charge for the "Standard subscription with ads". You can always upgrade to premium. Hopefully, the adaptive suspension will then start working!
