“With this foundation, I can be accountable. I can learn from my mistakes and I can move forward,” Hogan said. “And what’s so cool now is working with the Boys Club, I have a chance to help these kids not make the mistake I made, being at the wrong place at the wrong time or saying the wrong words.”
No words on equality, changing his attitudes, nope just regrets being caught. Jfc. Prick.
i dont think a meme is going to be the make/break with one of the most famous perosnas in all of modern media history dude. youre better off prostesting his torn yellow shirt being in a glass case at your local hard rock cafe
So was Ronald Reagan, Madonna, Bob Sagat, John Elway, Eddie Murphy and hundreds of other people I won’t bother listing that were more significant than some pro wrestler.
I am also Gen X, and the fact that I remember Sgt Slaughter and the Iron Sheik doesn’t make them historically relevant. My point is that none of them are. John Glenn. JFK. Barack Obama. Donald Fucking Trump. Maggie Thatcher. Muhammad Ali. Mike Tyson. Michael Jordan. Madonna. Bowie. Elton. Michael Jackson.
Those are the kinds of people who are historical figures. Hulk Hogan will be forgotten. He’s nowhere in the league of those kinds of people. He’s at best a D-list celebrity whose next headline will probably be his obit, after which no one other than fans of the 1980s wwf will remember him, and there’s going to be fewer of them every year.
Right, no doubt, but still totally irrelevant to the fact that if you're of a certain age, Hulk Hogan is way more famous than the Tiger King guy and Dog The Bounty Hunter.
I'm not here to defend his historical significance; that's something you brought in and has nothing to do with my position.
hahaa.. listen I didnt say I like the guy. I also was careful to say "modern media history", not like 'world history'.
lol I think you're lumping him in with other gross old trashy blonde guys with shit eater mustaches that look like him
but seriously just to say- respectfully, like the majority of people living in a country with a robust global pop culture would know who he is. he was THE GUY in the 80s. Iconoclastic- like essentially every living person over 25 in Japan, Australia, Ireland, Mexico, Finland etc will likey know who Hulk Hogan is if you show them a photo of him tearing that hulkamania shirt off of his oily leathery body in the WWF ring.. he's possibly the most famous pro wrestler of all time.
Dog the Bounty Hunter? I just really don't think so.
"virtue signal" is the funniest and most dishonest rebranding in history. Y'all hate that other people have virtues, so y'all try to make virtue seem unvirtuous.
You're making the exact same arguments racists make when they tell abhorrent racist jokes: "it's just a joke, it doesn't matter!"
Nah, virtue signaling is perfect here. Someone posts a meme including hulk hogan, normal people don’t see him even a little more positively than they previously did, and you come in here acting like he’s being praised. You’re making an obvious straw man argument and sticking your nose up in the process. And then regurgitate talking points without considering if it’s actually applicable.
No dude, I'm not saying he's being praised, I'm saying he's continuing being iconicized. This is simple fact. Icons matter. And beyond that, it's fucking lame as hell, on tier with fucking John Cena jokes, the most tired and lame shit on the internet.
It's a shit meme featuring a shit person and it deserves to be shit on.
I had a guy tell me you have to be drunk to enjoy a concert. There are a lot of people here who need to stop taking SSRIs, touch grass, and get laid or something
And even if you don't say racist things, growing up in the US, the pervasive, insidious racist ideas (e.g., myths, stereotypes, falsehoods) may have infected our thinking.
I think Dr. I. X. Kendi framed it right. It's on each of us to understand what those racist ideas are, examine ourselves, and choose to fight against them not just in our own minds but everywhere.
Dude, who are you fooling, you expect me to Believe you never dropped an N bomb? What are u getting out of pretending you never said or engaged in racist behavior when we know profiling in the very least is a very ingrained primitive behavior. Keep living in your fantasy land.

I've never once dropped the hard n and I can't think of anyone who has even my late racist dad. That term comes from a place of bigotry against black people.

Yes. Millions of people can say the same.
Sounds like maybe you are surrounded and raised by racists? That sucks man.
On the other hand, our whole culture has been steeped in racism, ever since Europeans first set foot on the continent. So probably not a lot of people can truly say they've never had a racist thought or held some racial bias or did some racist thing, whether unknowingly or not. Because there are lots of manifestations of racist ideas and if one is white, one is probably blind to at least some of it.
It's a lot easier to never say a specific, disgusting slur.

I've never dropped an N bomb. Normal people don't, and that is absolutely not what internalized or ingrained racism refers to. It refers to the more insidious subconscious racist tendencies, those which I do fall prey to and have to actively unlearn the same as anyone else. The kind of overt racism you're describing is not the same, and has never been justifiable or explainable, it's just disgusting and racist. If you truly think everyone else goes around using racial slurs, you absolutely need a reality check and probably some serious amends making, you fucking weirdo
