I've had a lot of great birding days this year, but little compares to the sheer awe at watching 100,000+ snow geese lift off at once. Previously, I'd only seen three individual snow geese. I hope I get to experience this beauty and feeling again soon.
I had a similar experience at whitewater draw in Arizona. There were a good number of Ross's geese mixed in so look for some smaller geese if you have closer up pictures of them sitting still.
I looked and looked, and I didn't spot any Ross's geese nor overhear other birders gasping at the sight of one. I did scour my images. A few are spotted at Middle Creek (where this event occurs in Pennsylvania) every year, but obviously, they're hit or miss when you have to sort through tens of thousands of individuals that generally all look the same.
