Bluesky is a very serious place

There's so much text here I don't know how to alt text it but it's a list of 17 bluesky block lists I'm on because I'm a evil cryptofash tankie authoritarian trump supporting jill stein voting blah blah blah and it looks like I got on an anti-ukraine list somehow?

  • and it looks like I got on an anti-ukraine list somehow?

Quite possible you just rubbed someone the wrong way. Wil Wheaton used to put anyone who sent him 'shut up, Wesley' on the gamergate list.

  • I think this is extremely anti social behaviour, but also very funny that people are giving you a reason why they blocked you and sharing it with other people, I can't even begin to imagine the lists of some people on here if this feature was on lemmy, "@HexbearsStrongestSoldier" blocked on 1000 different lists

  • it looks like I got on an anti-ukraine list somehow?

I think there's a way to merge blocklists together. So if you didn't post anything about Ukraine - some rando might have grabbed your name from an existing list and stuck you into their anti-Ukraine list because you're a leftist who posts. Bluesky libs are pathetic in their blocking/muting fetish.

    • Yeah it's a fascinating sociology experiment. They're not curating their own blocks when they're using lists, so they're subscribing to someone else's whims. I think they're going to end up in smaller and smaller silo'd microcommunities and we're going to get old Tumblr levels of bizarre niche cultures where people just develop incredible beliefs.

Like they have no idea how important it was that everyone was angry at everyone on Twitter to keep the culture mill churning. Without that constant hostility Bsky is going to be a very different experience. Maybe pleasant for some, but it's also not going to drive hte kind of virality that people are used to where there are big twitter moments everyone participates in.

      • I think it's funny that solidarity is needed more than ever yet they're going to do their version of punching left even harder. And it's the most liberal way of punching left possible. No fuss. No bother. No scraped knuckles. They click a few links and let the code do all the work. It's like anti-solidarity.

  • ngl, shoutout to the people that said "nah, we don't vibe 🥰" and left it at that. like, that is the sane way to use the torment box

    • what's funny is this is just another Twitter thing that Bluesky just copied. I've been on a list on Twitter called 'Mattress Tweets' for like a decade now and I've seen people on Twitter do things like put you on a list they've created called 'Big Idiots' or something along those lines. Bluesky users have just, for whatever reason, decided this is also worth doing lmao

      • On bluesky what do these lists exactly do? Like are they meant as a way to view a curated timeline and people have found a way to use them as blocklists? Or is it explicitly meant to be a blocklist?

  • Blocklists on Twitter actually had a value because total number of blocks had a real effect on how much the algorithm presents a person to other people at one point in time.

Blocklists on Bluesky do fuck all other than remove people that would oppose your shit from the pool of respondents you might get.

  • I find it funny that one of the lists is marked as "deprecated" ...? The list author should've just deleted the list. It's not like code where it gets deployed and breaks if you pull the rug out from others who use it.

  • Gringos on Bluesky really are just a bunch of libs huh.

At least there's a lot of leftists on the Brazilian side so I don't usually see much bullshit.
