Summary
- Qi2-certified phones all have magnets; no need to worry anymore about false rumors.
- Neodymium magnets for Qi2 charging are small, taking up little space compared to induction coils.
- Pressure applied to Android manufacturers can encourage magnetic compatibility with existing and future accessories.
Will I be able to charge a qi2 phone on an OG Qi charger?
1 0 ReplyYes, the opposite is also true. I know people who charge their Qi1 phones on Qi2 chargers, and you can even stick a metal ring on a phone case so that the Qi2 charger can attach.

What's the deal with magnets, are they supposed to replace the coil? Why are these reporters so excited about it?
0 0 ReplyBecause it means compatibility with magsafe accessories. So, you can attach magnetic powerbanks and other things to your phone.

That's nice although there is still zero adoption:(
5 0 ReplyIts not zero. HMD has launched a phone which is QI2 compatible and oneplus 13 also supports this standard
1 0 ReplyOkay so not exactly zero, but until a heavy hitter like Samsung won't even consider, worldwide adoption is going to be low - their flagship just stuck with Qi 1, even though the standard existed for about two or three years at this point.

I had a wireless charger melt a few years back cause I had a chunk of metal in my phone case.
Does this new standard include safety checks for stuff like that?
1 1 ReplyIt was always supposed to. Unfortunately, not everyone does a great job of implementing standards.
