I used to buy headphones and IEMs like crazy and I was never satisfied. There was always something nagging me, I could never find a pair of headphones that sounded "perfect" with all types of music so I'd have a selection of headphones that I'd use for specific genres. Now I only have this one pair and a second pair I kept for guests to use on my guest gaming rig.
Thankfully good audio gear doesn't really lose much value so I didn't end up losing all that much money over the years of buying headphones but it's nice to not have to think about it anymore and just enjoy the music. Headphone addicts will understand lol.
Nah I'm not interested in speakers, my music is my think and I want it for myself, I sometimes where my headphones without any sound, it's my comfort bubble
Yeah I understand that 100%. You probably want closed back headphones then, that makes it a bit harder to find something with a really wide soundstage.
Right now I have a HE400 i2020, and it's more the idea of having something on my head that brings me a certain peace of mind
I have the HD800 in my eye on them, I'd want to find somewhere to test it, and get it one day second day. There's also the HD560s, I'm just partially scared the Planar Bass that I have now will not be there at all on a DD at this price (saying that but I also need to find it and try it)
Edit: I Checked and wow you can get second hand a HD800 in good condition for 600 euro
Oof yeah I know, it's scary going back to dynamic drivers after being spoiled by the speed and agility of planar drivers. The HD800 are definitely a great pair of headphones though, I doubt you would regret the switch especially if you can get a good pair second hand. I've never tried the HD560s but yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if you'd lose something switching from planar to those drivers. Sennheisers tend to be pretty dark and veiled especially at the lower price points, the HD650 (HD6xx) or HD600 would probably be a safer bet but even with those you might feel like you're missing something.
Funnily, the one pair I kept other than my Stax are a pair a HE-4xx that I've modded a bit, which are basically the same as the HE-400i. For the price they are hard to beat.
