I'm a user that's migrating from Reddit. Most of my fap material was on Reddit and I'm trying to find the lemmy equivalent communities but seem to hit a wall each time via boost. I tried searching for communities without logging in and saw a few but obviously couldn't access without an account.
Made an account in a random instance to turn NSFW on and now those communities don't show (404 community not found). Ok cool, I make an account in lemmy.nsfw but somehow I can't log into that instance here on Boost.
Normally I would remind people of my instance, pornlemmy.com, but in the past 3 months we've had somewhere between 250k and 300k unique visitors per month, and less than $200 in total donations. So at the moment I'm investing $200 / 3 of time and resources each month, which amounts to less than one hour of work (per month) for me. I am open to selling PornLemmy though, so if anyone wants a site with 300k uniques, ping me.
Why are so many instances being such prudes. Porn is fine as long as they're 18 and above. Whenever an instance creator is scared of FBI raiding their house, I point to 4chan which hosts all sorts of degen stuff and still kicking.
Often because other people are prudes, outside their control. A lot of prudishness comes from payment providers etc confusing their job with being a Moral Guardian and making life hard for adult content creators. It's also hard to blame anyone for wanting to not be 4chan-level degenerate or dealing with it. At the very least it's a potential liability, that someone's taking on essentially as a hobby.
your particular instance (jlai.lu) has defederated from lemmynsfw (though oddly not pornlemmy.com); so you won't see any communities, posts, or comments from their users
you can check the federated and defederated instances before you sign up by clicking the "instances" link at the bottom of the page, then scrolling all the way down to the "blocked" section
as to why you can't sign into your lemmynsfw acct.: i don't know. possibly because they're running a patched backend? it may be worth a bug report
i'm glad i could be helpful - i realise federated social networks are a bit of a paradigm shift, so feel free to ask me if you have any other questions (although i probably won't have any answers)
There are a bunch of communities that I saw on boost before signing in but I'm not sure if they are locked out of the instance once I login. One example is asiansgonewild - was visible before creating an account, and now no longer visible after creating one.
Similarly lemmy.nsfw has a bunch of communities but I can't see any of them via Boost.
You may need to login through the website first and adjust some account settings. There is a setting for “Show NSFW content” that you should make sure is on. Any settings you apply through the web UI will override whatever app you use.
Would prefer to keep porn entirely separate from casual discussions. there really is not a big overlap between people looking to discuss current events and coomers looking for jerk off material. The one thing I always hated about reddit is how the porn was mixed in with casual discussion posts. You don't need porn.
