It's not broadcast TV, but it is British - has anyone watched Adolescence, and what did you think?
I gave it a look because it's been in the news a bit and friends gave it the thumbs up. It's a bit heavy, but not overwhelmingly so, and I enjoyed it. I'm not sure I'd put it up there as a great bit of TV, but certainly the message about what kids have to go through these days is interesting.
I thought it was excellent, especially in terms of the acting and single shot filming (seriously, how the hell did they do each episode in one shot?). It was very clever in what it did and didn't reveal - like not showing the kid throughout the final episode and purely focusing on the family's reaction.
The episode with the psychiatrist was really fascinating too. I'm not sure how accurate it is, but I loved seeing the process and the raw emotions it elicited.
Lots of good stuff about it, and the one-shot filming was impressive (I'd like to know how many takes they had to do, since there didn't seem to any way they could cut it and splice different takes together).
There was quite a bit they've didn't reveal, as you, which left me feeling a little bit unfulfilled because I'm the kind of person who likes loose ends tied up, but it wasn't too frustrating.
I think people will like the third episode in particular, but I really thought all of them were equal, since they show four completely different aspects.
I get what you mean about loose ends, but the uncertainty of it all definitely added to the realism. We get hints as to why Jamie did it; what caused him to become radicalised in the way he did and a rough idea of his feelings. But never a direct confession from him besides the change of plea. We never know how things turn out for the grieving schoolkids or family. I kinda like that - it's left to the viewer's imagination and isn't neatly wrapped up because things in real life rarely are.
And yes I loved how each episode was from a different perspective.
