    • Sweet & Sour Pork
    • Orange/Lemon chicken (depending on the place and what they have)
    • Chow mein
    • Fried rice
    • Egg rolls
    • Egg drop soup

At the place I go to most often, I can get all of that for about $8 and it's enough for two meals.

    • $8? That's about £6. Lucky to find a Chinese in my area where the chow mein is below £7. Maybe it's just my area being expensive but that's really cheap.

      • Just checked a local chippie and chow mein would be £8 with fancy ones running to £8.40. That feels like a lot but prices have jumped up recently. I checked on Just Eat and the cheapest I could find was £7.60.

I suppose we now know why no-one ever cooks on American sitcoms.

  • Cripsy chilli shredded beef in sweet & sour sauce

    Egg Fried rice

    Chips

    Curry sauce

It's incredibly difficult to find a chinese that does a nice crispy shredded beef though; usually they end up being soggy rather than crispy and not chilli enough. The only really decent one I've had was down in Treforest, near Pontypridd in South Wales, and that was some years ago now.

  • Cantonese Chow Mein Chicken with Black Bean Sauce Sweet n Sour Chicken Balls

Occasionally shrimp fried rice or beef & broccoli

Oh and their fried chicken wings! Yummm

  • I'm veggie so it's tofu for me. I typically go for whatever dish has a fuckload of ginger or cashew nuts. Have it with boiled rice

    • Salt and pepper siu mai
    • Singapore-style vermicelli

A local Chinese does the most amazing S&P Siu mai and gives you loads of them. Definitely an order of magnitude better than the others. They don't do online orders or delivery, you have to phone up and show up. It's a clear sign of quality that they are always busy and you struggle to park nearby. When I was house hunting I even looked at one next door to them. People warned me about the possibility of rats or the issues with parking but it didn't half smell nice. I was put off by the used nappy someone had left in the front "garden". It was £20k cheaper than other houses in the street though... Ah what could have been.
