I feel like he played himself badly...insane elsewhere that he has higher paying / longer term deals w better teams. Holding out and swapping agents was a bad move for him!
Could work out really well for him, though. He's guaranteed top-six minutes on a team with a lot of young firepower (Stützle, Norris, Brady Tkachuk), which could raise his stock for a new contract next year. If he signed with a "better" team, it would be easier to relegate him to less time on ice if he's not performing well. Ottawa was prety desperate to make up for losing DeBrincat, so it a win win for both of them.
Plus, he had a NMC which allows him to pick where he goes at the deadline if the Sens don't make the playoffs.
