I heard it compared to 9/11, which conspiracies held was allowed to happen to justify the US's actions in the Middle East.

This question is going to plague a lot of minds for years to come, mine included.
It would make sense for Netenyahu to want something big and despicable enough to wage total war against Palestine. Israel has been slow rolling invasion and genocide for decades. It's definitely a conspiracy theory since there's no real proof yet but I element be surprised.
Not saying we should trust Netanyahu’s denial of this happening, but at the same time its not really reasonable to just trust an anonymous source in an ongoing conflict where public and international opinion matters a lot.
If there is more to this story then we probably will see more people confirming this in the near future.

Maybe my wording is not that clear, but I am just responding to this part of the article where the source for the story is clearly mentioned as an anonymous source.:

So far the most benefiting entities politically are: Russia and China (US attention might be divided and be forced to divert funds to Israel), Netanyahu (Isreelis were very divided in his support, this raises up nationalism and helps him to do more).
Some Egyptian authorities have apparently denied this story, so it's all pretty murky right now.
But if it is true, Bibi is toast.
