Sounds a bit like Bookshop and Bonedust , a cozy adventure story in a seaside town, set mostly in a rundown bookstore whose proprietor is a mouse person.

Why did this immediately make me think of that movie starring Sandra Bullock called Practical Magic. As a side note, I need to rewatch Practical Magic, it's been too long since I've seen it.
