What movies, books or tv shows are meant to spoof/parody a particular genre while actually being a great example of the genre?
The 3 that come to mind for me are Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The Princess Bride. All three are poking fun at their respective genres but also are great examples of the genre. I'm curious if Lemmy has other such examples.
They are definitely reversing so many tropes. Like instead of being a generic, nice and super strong protagonist (like 99% of isekais), kazuma is an asshole and weak.
Dude, almost of the good isekai do that. Look at Re:Zero. Subaru is pathetically weak and ruins his life over and over, but you don't see anyone claiming that show is a parody.
Also look at Mushoku Tensei. Rudeus starts off as trash, but it gives him space for character growth and makes him more interesting as a character
Simply not being generic trash does not make a show a parody. Being a parody requires a deliberate deconstruction of a genre. A good example of this is One Punch Man, where they completely toss out the idea of continuous growth and powerscaling that is core to the shounen genre, while also having stand-ins for character in other shows (Dragonball, Attack on Titan) pop up to get instantly demolished by Saitama.
