I still don’t underatand how woke is perceived as bad. To me, out of any context woke means you’re waking up, leaving the dream behind and facing reality. Like in the Matrix (except IRL the red pill keeps you in the dream). I just can’t understand how they managed to turn woke negatively. What’s the alternative sleepy? Aren’t the the same people who say wake up sheeple?

It's not about the etymology of the word, it's about how people use it on Twitter. Twitter pits obnoxious assholes against each other and gives their pissing contests an audience.
