I'm still worried about Hopoo not being at the helm on this one, as I trust Gearbox about as far as I can throw them, and since they're a whole ass company of people with a building.... not very far.

I did love Risk of Rain 1 a shit ton though, so I hope this turns out well!
- Hopoo are helming Risk of Rain Returns. Gearbox will handle all future projects but this is the last Hopoo project in the franchise.

I loved RoR2 and appreciate the effort they are putting into this game as a labor of love, but I really have to question if people care for a 2D RoR game after the sequel got so much attention.
- I remember reading a lot of comments reading the opposite in the months leading up to RoR2 releasing. People were extremely skeptical about the game moving into 3d.
  
  Going back to 2d might not be as big of a hit as RoR2 was but I'm sure it'll do fine and the increased name recognition should help get some sales too.
- I would. I like 2, but i love 1. 1 is just one of those games ya know.
- RoR2 felt too.. balanced.. Too controlled.
  The original allowed for nearly unlimited collection of items, and insane combinations.
  
  For example: Collecting barbed wire and crowbars I 3 shot the final boss (one insta-kill for each form) directly after it spawned in.
  
  You could loop infinately prepping and getting the wildest combination of items.
  
  Personally, I enjoyed the hell out of both games, but RoR1 was a lot more fun with the insanity that could develop.

- Maybe an uncommon opinion, but as someone who's invested hundreds of hours into both games, I actually prefer the 2d experience of ROR quite a lot more than the 3d of ROR2.
- I do. It's not likely to be as successful as RoR2 but I would love an enhanced version of the original.
I'd love for some additional ror2 content instead
- Gearbox bought the risk of rain franchise a while back so I would assume they have plans for it.
  
  Embracer bought Gearbox, and recently laid off tons of people. Don't be to hopeful.
Risky Rain with, presumably, working netcode and (hopefully) doesn't crash after a few mins in multiplayer? Sign me the heck up.
Hoping the design for this one is a bit. . . tighter? As much as I liked the original, runs usually turned into hopping around trying to not get hit while you hope for enough space to actually use your abilities; or if you had busted items you just about instakill everything. I never found much of an in-between and felt that the sequel handled playing from behind situations much better.
- Well they've already fixed my biggest issue with the original, you no longer need to kill every enemy to go to the next stage. Everything else is icing on the cake.
  
  We'll see how they handle being able to avoid damage but I doubt it will be too different from the original.
