I'm just a small hoarder, but am currently stuck with a decision. I hope you guys can help me find a solution.
Currently, I have an internal Storage Space on my Windows desktop (6 TB; two HDDs mirrored). I also have two 10 TB external HDDS. Every other week I back my data to these discs, one after the other, with the help of a docking station. One of the discs is in a box next to the computer, the other one in a small, burning, and waterproof safe in our basement (that is separated from the main building as well). My idea with that is, that if anything happens (just let it be thieves stealing), I still got this one copy downstairs.
Lately, I was considering getting a NAS instead of this, but is that a better choice with my situation? I know that I could use a NAS and one external drive (the one in the basement), but does that really improve something for me? Besides, I'm just looking for IDrive, pCloud or whatever Black Friday deals to have this as my cloud backup as well.
Any suggestions? Should I stick with what was working or go for a NAS? Somehow, I'm stuck.
I honestly don't see a huge need for a NAS in your case. Especially, if you still have free space on the HDDs. I mean, a single HDD can cover your needs easily and I don't see any benefits in a NAS for backups.
