Hell no. There are definitely a lot of shitty, no-effort anime but the same can be said for Western cartoons.
However, there are some gorgeous, amazingly well made anime out there. Older ones especially tend have more skilled drawing/animation than anything we see today, and blow other anime and Western cartoons out of the water
Bob's burgers is not a flex in any category of artistic skill.
And yet it still manages to be better in every conceivable way.
Just the FMA Brotherhood intro has a bigger animation budget then an episode of bobs burgers.
Which only goes to prove that money doesn’t guarantee quality.
Manga? Berserk has been doing laps artistically for what? over 20 years? Influence on other media in the space? Eva? Sailor Moon? Popularity and profit? Pokemon, Digimon, Naruto, one piece, the list goes on.
More badly drawn kids cartoons I’m assuming? I have no idea what any of that is.
I mean you can be like "that's just my opinion maaaaan"
Umm… this IS my opinion. Did you miss the topic we’re commenting on? And the fact that your opinion that anime isn’t garbage happens to be shared with a lot of other people doesn’t make it any less of an opinion.
there are actually right and wrong answers in art and this is one of them.
You couldn’t be more wrong. Have an adult explain to you what “art is subjective” means. Then have them have you use it in a sentence.
Then come back and delete the embarrassment of a comment you just made.
Really, the fact that you treat anime as a monolith is the wildest part of this take. I'd love to know how you came to such a deep undersanding of the skill that goes into all anime.
Anime is children's cartoons and should not be seen as more. The failure of accepting that fact is what is leading to so many of the problems anime has as a medium. When it accepts that fact, they get out some actually nice shows like detective Conan, Pokémon and even some newer shows like Cardfight Vanguard.
Western cartoons got it right with shows like The owl house, Amphibia, Steven Universe and Infinity Train.
The Owl House and Bluey kicked the shit out of children's cartoons I had when I was a kid. Bluey makes me want to be a better parent, and I'll be damned if I don't think about The Owl House at least once a week.
