TIL that Venus flytraps can count the number of times an insect touches their trigger hairs, helping them optimize their response for energy conservation and effective digestion.
Yeah, those plants really have to watch how they spend their energy because I had one in a pot and was so happy when it was blooming beautifully, only to slowly die in the coming months. Apparently they put so much energy in everything they do, even the first bit of bloom (blooming?) can be too much, making them die slowly.
Here is mine. Loved how it looked! Didn't live very long after.
