How much internet speed in Wi-Fi should I typically get on my smartphone?
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite, which according to the internet should be able to support speeds up to 1.2Ghz. I have a contract in which my provider should give me access to 500mbs on wi-fi but this is the most I ever got with my phone, I normally get 280mbs or lower. Is this considered normal, despite being a wireless speed test?
That's a good result. I'm on a wifi6 network and I usually get in the 200's, a wired desktop on the same network gets around 850. Other laptops on wired get similar performance to the phone.
First off, you should not test the local internet speed with speedtest.net or similar websites. This just tests the connection you have to your provider in most cases.
Use something like iperf3 instead between two local devices, like your phone and the access point. Check if there is any such tool on your access point and get a coresponding client on your phone.
The wifi speed in general first depends on the generation used. Check which version is the highest commonly supported one between your phone and the access point.
The big second factor is signal strength. How close are you to the access point and what obstructions are in the way?
