A great piece of American cinema!
Whenever something circulates that could easily be an urban legend, I just assume it is one.
In this case, it is real. It's also likely the person who started it circulating just printed out the first page and added the pen (or 'shopped it on).
Did we ever get Kermit ordering a drink in a bar?
He does order the finest sparkling Muscatel in a restaurant, even sniffs the bottle cap.
